One problem with Tom Cruise movies is that he is mostly just playing "Tom Cruise".... I like almost all of his movies alot but I always know I am watching a Tom Cruise movie. For example, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning is my favourite MI movie (Saw it twice in the theatre) but of course, its Tom being Tom being Tom...
Once exception to this is "Born of the 4th of July". I completely forgot I was watching Tom Cruise... his acting was freakin' stellar.
Another exception might be "Vanilla Sky". His character in this movie is kind of just a very regular guy, and after about 5 minutes in I was swept-up in the story.
