What is the ideal setup for a podcast which could reach the widest audience?

No, but my brain doesn't work like that anyway...
There's nothing that could be mentioned on a podcast that would make me think - 'I Must Get That'
Even if they talked about something Id never heard of, Id still do a lot of independent research myself to find the mix of best quality / price
I would never by anything just because it was mentioned on a podcast...
& I actually listen to a LOT of podcasts... Usually a couple of hours worth each day, so that's about 18 to 20 hours worth each week...
To be blunt, I've had a lot of people want me to start a podcast, but there's so many already. But as a publicist, I've got a lot of mileage out of podcasts. Just some that come to mind are:
