    Hello, St Kitts!

After months and months of this and that bureaucracy, up and down and all around, My wife and I are finally citizens of St. Kitts, passports and all.

Our small 1 bed/1bath, cabin was finished a few weeks ago and I just took possession of it last week. We're going back down in a few days to get appliances, furniture, and utilities squared away. We have to get some kind of car or truck too.

It's going to be a different life now, that's for sure!

Sounds like a dream, unless it is densely populated where your home is... In that case it would be a nightmare

woot woot, welcome to the Caribbean!

have lived in several Carib nations over the past decade or so and in each, the biggest adjustment is that everything is sloooow

if you or your partner are type A's who want everything done yesterday like me it's a seriously massive culture shock. I have never learned patience, that's where weed and ocean come in

just learn to roll with it

most important thing: make local friends. venture out. talk to people, not just the rich ones

they, not the expats will know the workings of lil details about how local systems work. makes life a million times easier. and way cheaper if you need anything done beyond your capabilities. expat-oriented services will rob ya blind

international banking is easy and your home nation bank can assist you with that if needed, the rest a bit of a learning curve

but most locals anywhere in my experience know tips and tricks expats don't and are happy to help if they feel you're invested (which you obv are by making the move)

I'm excited for you both. safe travels and have fun

Congrats Ruff! How did you go about getting the citizenship, did you use a service, if so would you recommend them? I'm curious how it works exactly, the process, to get it done.

Been there, it's nice, I cannot imagine living in countries like these though (see what Jesse says)

I remember talking to a German woman who lived there (or maybe Antigua - same thing though) and her adventure of getting her car fixed. And getting strung along for months due to missing parts and the work ethics of her "mechanics".

I'd blow the place up after a month probably

It definitely isn't for everyone. I always thought that it was my dream...tried the Carribean for a couple months and hated everything after 3 months or so. Moved away after 4 months, never looked back. I realized I need it all...big city life, with a beach/mountain escape for the weekends, nearby.

very very very true. real life isn't a paradise vacation. but I have goats in my yard and they entertain me to no end (even though they eat the carrots I try to grow) and I'm a four min walk from the ocean

I need anything, just call a friend. but try to be self-sufficient. sometimes here though...kindness overwhelming

another definition of paradise. ceiling caves in on you during a series of near hurricane tropical storms? on top of your computer? s'up D, I don't know what to do. have a new comp that day and a wicked new apt sourced within a week

women are actually NICE to each other in the islands once they get that you're not tryna steal their man (that goes for anywhere, but you're known in your home town). as a single person (I left my husband after 15 yrs but got citizenship through him, he's dual CA and JA) was a bit of annoying uphill 'jesus christ how much I gotta prove myself' fuckery

from prior islands experience it's way easier for a female as part of a couple to make lady friends

like I wrote above, make local friends

you never have to wait for anything. except for non-biz/non-fedex mail and lines and people walking slow on a narrow street. then yeah bomb the fucking world. applicable to every nation I've lived in or stayed in long term so assume the same is true for Kitts

Ruff, wish you and the Missus all the best. enjoy a wicked ride and a peaceful life once you get established

Or you could take a month or two on island when is hardest winter.

Too short for me...looking at 12 months of summer now, no compromises.

In the EU, Canary Islands are the only option when it comes to the weather and I like it there a lot. Other than that...Latin America or Asia.

They've got fiber optic on most of the island. I think up to 1 gb if I'm lucky.

You can google citizenship by investment. There are a number of countries that have this in place. We used a company in St. Kitts to work with as it takes a number of months and they know how to do it.

We chose St Kitts, instead of Nevis, which is more country. The main benefit besides citizenship and passport, is there are no taxes.

I'd blow the place up after a month probably
I lived in the Virgin Islands in the nineties. It is an American possession or something like that. An island gets really small really fast. I was younger then and I had my fill. It's pretty touristy. St Kitts is still old Carribbean so far.
I would say we'll probably be 50/50 with Seattle weather wise, plus we fucking hate hurricanes.

If he doesn't have an US passport anymore, he is out of it 100%.

I wouldn't...I was living "in the sun" for 4 years, didn't miss the cold weather for a minute. If it wasn't for my family, I would be still there. Going back soon, I hope.
