It's very depressing.

I'm not a pacifist, either. War is sometimes necessary, I know, and if we're in one we'd better win.

But war is only a tool. A grand strategy requires long-term planning and foresight, and the ability to delay some of your short-term goals in order to obtain the long-term ones. Only fools, and people who have never seen war, rush into it.

Attacking Iraq will satisfy multiple short-term goals of the US. But in the longer term, it will backfire. We ARE the only superpower, sure... but does that mean it makes sense to piss in everybody's sandbox? Everyone could benefit (the US most of all) if we raised the standard of living for everyone as is (to some degree) within our power, instead of grabbing everything we can and leaving huge numbers of people with no hope for a normal life and nothing but hatred for us, the biggest target in the world.

I think we should kill every member of Al-Qaeda we can, whenever it's feasible, unless they surrender. But I'm not stupid enough to think that's going to solve the problem... it's only one little tool.

Use your brain and realize that we have a big toolbox. They only want you to think we can only use the hammer.

there was not problem with military action then,

so what if a few people die, shit happens

hell even when i was doing non combat training there was soldiers getting killed, they prolly won't even use ground troops anyways until they start bombing for the first 4 months

Iraq and Al-Qaeda are so ideologically different that I can't really imagine them working together at all. It's possible, but I see no evidence of it from any source. It's just an excuse to distract people from the economy, create a solid base for our troops in that region, to perpetuate heavy oil consumption, and to boost Bush so he might get re-elected.

Now, brocklanders, is any of this in your interest?
