      Same is true in this industry. When I end up helping people with their site - ask no fee just help them out - they are shocked and amazing looking for the angle. I don't even say, "say something nice about me on the boards" - just there you go it's fixed

      I grew up in an adult industry where you do help others - we called it karma. Then somewhere along the line people got selfish - screwed up and trust was broken.

      Now there are few veterans left from that time - I talk every now and then and those who are around know they can contact me any time for advice or assistance with whatever they need and I'll help.

          There was a time when we could hate each other. But, when it came to making money we magically became each other's best friends. By comparison, these days you can kiss ass and handout champagne breakfasts but it'll get you nowhere.
          officially retired as of March 01 2018 but still fucking around and getting into shit.

              So true - I remember Miami taking 20 of the top webmasters out for a steak dinner in the private room at the hotel restaurant. Had personalized gifts etc. - cost close to 8k but the business afterwards paid for it multiple times over. Try doing that now and see what you get LOL.

              No wonder trade shows today just don't have the same feeling as they use to. Even if you tried to pull it off - there is no ROI

                          An obvious joke (about/against pedantry) since people fall over each other to help others in tech threads because a) it's human nature to help and b) they want to be the first to post the solution and look smart.

                          What is true, though, is if you want 'activity' on a thread or blog post or anything else, post something 'wrong', aka trolling.

                          Either factually wrong or just an opinion deemed 'wrong' by certain parts of society, such as anti-vax Trumper bigots, still angry about their failed armed January insurrection of 2020, who think trans women don't belong in female safe spaces or reading bedtime stories to kids.
