Stop Smoking ' live 10 years longer '

Research studies show that if YOU Stop Smoking YOU will live 10 years longer...

So, I urge all men and women over 40 to have a health check - that all GPs can provide - which will include finding out their blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and starting to address any areas of concern.

important reminder for everyone over 40 to have a heart health check

Well I am 48, have health checks - blood pressure and cholesterol levels are fine, and I smoke about 1 pack in 2 or 3 days. I do agree that I need to stop - the extra years I can use for my kids. Thanks for the update

The worst part about smoking is not that you will reduce years off your lifespan but that you will significantly reduce the quality of life the last years you're around..

How so? I had a heart attack in 2007 and managed to quit smoking for good as well some time after. How is my quality of life less?

I quit smoking a few years ago. I smoke only at shows, and those are becoming less and less for me. I can't remember the last time I smoked. Not only do I feel better, but everything tastes so much better too!

It has been difficult to "Quit" but I have managed to taper off for the last few years. At my peak I smoked a half a pack a day. The only time I get a craving for a cigarette is when I am drinking and that is becoming more of a rarity as well.

How is the quality of your life less? You had a heart attack! Good thing you were smart and quit afterward otherwise yes, the last years of your life would have probably been miserable.

Poor circulation, cardiovascular problems, breathing problems, horrible teeth, cancer, higher blood pressure, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, stroke, cataracts, bone thinning, (hip fractures), peptic ulcers and macular degeneration. Yes, I'd say there is a good chance the quality of life during, once again, the last years of your life would be diminished if you continued to smoke, and if you smoked for a long time you pay not have already paid the price for your habit.

                        From the ACS.

"Effects of smoking on how long you live and your quality of life

Based on data collected from 1995 to 1999, the CDC estimated that adult male smokers lost an average of 13.2 years of life and female smokers lost 14.5 years of life because of smoking.

But not all of the health problems related to smoking result in deaths. Smoking affects a smoker's health in many ways, harming nearly every organ of the body, and causing diseases. According to the CDC, in 2000 about 8.6 million people had at least one chronic disease because they smoked or had smoked. Many of these people were suffering from more than one smoking-related problem. The diseases seen most often were chronic bronchitis, emphysema, heart attacks, strokes, and cancer. These diseases can steal away a person's quality of life long before death. Smoking-related illness can limit a person's daily life by making it harder to breathe, get around, work, or play. "

what's fucked up is they think cancer is caused by this P65 gene that basically runs all mutations in your body

so as a smoker, i get to think about what sort of mutations would be passed on to kids.. considering i am XY and woman is XX haha, i think my mutations would have a bigger impact?

I can't manage to quit smoking, despite hating the fact that I smoke. I have no idea how my husband woke up one day last year and said 'enough' and hasn't picked it up *despite knowing that when I'm stepping outside for a few minutes, I'm smoking a cigarette.

I just bought this started kit http://greensmoke.com/6140.html
the videos on youtube looked good and like its realistic. I got the 8mg marlboro tobacco which is supposed to taste and feel like a full cigarette, not a light.

If you noted that your ref code was in that link then it would seem a lot more legitimate and you might actually benefit a lot more. People aren't stupid you know, and I don't even smoke cigs.. hopefully you aren't just trying to gain an advance on some suckers. It's a habit that involves the posture of your fingers, the motion of lifting to your lips, inhaling, etc.. no electronic gismo is going to rid you of your unhealthy habit, especially if it requires you to act as if you're smoking a cig, the only way to quit is to just quit..

So smoking is a good way to die from lung cancer, if you prefer lung cancer over say a selection of difference cancers to choose from. Incidently, pancreatic cancer is hard to get so by smoking you can focus on the lung cancer.

It just sounds as if you are questioning how your quality of life can be affected by the effects of smoking, which is something you should have learned in grade one. I may be misunderstanding you comment, but the way I'm reading it, it sounds as arrogant as it is ignorant.
