What is disturbing is humans thinking they know better than nature. 12 year old girls, and younger, have been giving birth on this planet long before you and I were born, and will be long after you and I are gone, regardless what you have been raised to believe is correct or not.
Old news... that's why their is age of consent so sickos don't in pregnant young girls and put them at risk.
Women die all the time while giving child birth. The ONLY reason this made news is because it made a great headline. How many 12 year olds didn't die that day in Yemen, or anywhere else in the world? That wouldn't make for a good story.

Yeah I was gonna say, I believe it's wrong, but back before medieval times the average lifespan was like 25 years old. Many women, girls gave birth well before they turned 15.

I think more to the point is the forced marriage of these kids.
Asking how many didn't die says nothing about the real problem.
Why bother working on a cure for cancer? After all... how many haven't died from it?
Oh, totally. I am so amazingly lucky that I was born when and where I was or life as a female would be a totally different ordeal.
I think that every time I hear one of these stories or stories of honor killings, female genital mutilation and a host of other atrocities committed around the globe. I look at my 14 year old daughter and am so grateful she has the opportunities and the freedom she has.

I am not too concerned what stone age Neanderthals in Yemen do....... the problem is when these people move to civilized countries that have advanced out of the stone age and then continue to practice their medieval barbarism there. A girl born the UK deserves to have the same rights as every other citizen regardless of whether her parents are inbred savages or not. Unfortunately forced marriages, honor killings etc. are an all too common practice in the UK...... and the authorities invariably turn a blind eye so as not to rile up the savages.

Got any kids of your own?
When you have your own 12 year old girl, and some douchebag gets her pregnant, you'll be singing a much different tune.

One of the very first memories I have of having conversation with my Dad was when I was about six and were were chatting in the kitchen about politics (yeah, I started young) and he told me never to let anybody tell me I couldn't be and do whatever I want based on my gender. That would have been very early 1980's America. It breaks my heart that in 2009, there are six year old girls being told the exact opposite by their daddy.
I know what Dirty White Boy and Sarah said are true ..But it still sad indeed to see a 12 year old kid die while trying to have a baby.
It is. It's sad to see ANY woman die during child birth. That shouldn't happen anywhere.

Of course it's not about death. Forced marriage is horrible, but a lot of countries still practice this. That's sad, but that's life. Unless you are going to go and try to do something about it, because I'm not, I'm not going to lose sleep over it. And even though you read about it in the news and see it on TV, you will not lose sleep over it either.

Nice closed western mind you have. My 12 year old raised in a western world, has nothing to do with a 12 year old raised in an environment that condones such things. However, if it was normal around the world for 12 year olds to do this, why would I object? Because western teachings and Christianity told me it's wrong? Sorry, I'm putting my money on nature, evolution, natural selection and the universe. Not man made laws, ideas or morals, that change every so often with the wind. If we were born 100 years ago, maybe less, your 12 year old daughter, and mine, may both be married with kids by now.
20 y.o. women sometimes die during childbirth too, 45 y.o. die much more often. Course it's sad that girl has died and course 12 y.o. is not a good age for that but life is a bitch...
Do you know what Yemen is? My mother in law is gynecologist who was working there for a few years. The people there has no idea what a basic sanitation is. They live in shit. They go to a doctor only they are almost died. You don't know how many women lives my mother in law has saved...........

As a species we evolve in many senses of the word. One such way is socially.
For example, humans have been raping, murdering and plundering long before either of were born and will continue to long after we're gone. That this is a fact is no justification for rape, murder or plunder.

My mind isn't closed. My mind isn't clouded by religious traditions of what is accepted and where, either.
I notice you haven't denied you'd be singing a different tune if you had a 12 year old daughter of your own in this situation. Maybe you're too young to even imagine yourself in this situation? Just speculating there, though.
when i was in jr high a girl in 8th grade was prego, she was 13 but her parents made her have an abortion though a court order then she ran away from home... never heard about her after that
There is nowhere on the planet that 12 year olds are physically, financially, emotionally, and mentally ready for motherhood --especially in a poor country without basic services.

Where they die in 30 of old age? Once again, you have no idea what Yemen is.

<<<<<< ------------- Peace Corps 1992 - 1993 = Yemen
Then I spent 3 more months living in Aden, and another month in Dhamar, where I can assure you, the people in both cities know what basic sanitation is and they do not live in shit.
Your mother-in-law spent time in some ghetto somewhere. That is one VERY small fraction of the country. So I ask, do YOU know what Yemen is? You ever even been there on a flight layover?
There is hardly a country on this earth I have not been to or spent time in, regardless if the people live in shit or not.

You're smarter than that.
HER body says she's ready. That's all that matters.

Perhaps in our world, with our western minds, ergonomic chairs and Starbucks. But it's just a fact of life in theirs.

Of course there is no justification for it. It simply is what it is, and not a one of us can or will do anything about it.

Why would I have a 12 year old daughter IN Yemen? I would never have a child in such a situation, BUT if that was the way things were on a global scale, so be it. My great grandma married at 11, first kid at 13. That's the way things were then, as it is in some parts of the world today. Get over it. YOUR daughter isn't there either.
Since ethics and morals vary from culture to culture, there will always be conflict in this world. There will always be someone who is unhappy with what you are doing, no matter what you are doing. Here it seems absurd that someone so young should get married and get pregnant. Over there it's normal. Over there they consider it absurd, that we don't pray 5 times a day and that we live hedonistic lifestyles. Whatever, I've found it's best not to worry about other people's business unless it affects or intrudes upon your life.

Thankfully she was in in country that is governed by the laws of GOD! Imagine, if this 12 year old girl had lived in a "progressive" country, she may have had an evil ABORTION, and LIVED!!!
Thank GOD that a hero killed TILLER THE BABY KILLER, so now we can rejoice, that here in America, twelve year old girls will die painful deaths before a SACRED FETUS is ever put in danger! Praise the lord!
You have a preconceived, Westernized idea of what marriage is. It is not always about love.
Amen to that.
In fact, the majority of the world does not marry out of love. Perhaps they fall in love with the person they marry at a later time, but that is not the cause for marriage.
The problem with most western minds, is they can't comprehend, and I mean really comprehend, that their way is not the best or only way sometimes. The longer I live in Asia, the more I'm starting to agree with their way of doing things, as it makes sense the more I can decipher what is really going on under the surface.
Then I spent 3 more months living in Aden, and another month in Dhamar, where I can assure you, the people in both cities know what basic sanitation is and they do not live in shit.
"I was in Aden so I know Yemen" Hmm.... Go to any nearest village and look aground because Aden, Sanaa etc are almost civilized cities even for Europeans.

There are no ghettos in Yemen (it's not America). She was working in usual small village saving their useless* lives. BTW, now she speaks Arabс fluently.

*I said "useless" just because they don't value their lives at all. If someone dies, the say: "nothing special - god gave, god took". Most of village women don't know how old are them. The most widespread female disorder there is vaginitis. You said "they know what basic sanitation is"? To speak about diseases and death reasons there you must be a doctor (at least). Are you doctor?

Ghettos can only be in America?
Strange that because I could swear a few areas around Johannesburg I've been to were Ghettos...
Anyway you are playing on semantics I am sure you know he meant small villages and slums.
You also talk about Yemen like you know everything about it because your mother in law has been there, have YOU been there?
