Rant The Problem With People (No Poo) Serious Post

Theres a little public area at the bottom of my road - Little bench and paved area - Nothing special, but it's there nonetheless.

Council are supposed to tend to it, but of course they don't... A huge load of brambles have grown up covering the paved area, and large clumps of weeds are sprouted, both sides of the bench...

One of my neighbours put a note through everyone's doors the other day - 'Come on everyone - Let's get together and tidy it up! Many hands make light work - Bring gardening gloves, tools and green waste bins and lets tidy it up! Meet there, Saturday Morning 9.30'

Well, fair enough, but I'm genuinely busy on that morning with prior engagements, so I decided to take the clearing of the brambles, the most unsightly part of the job, into my own hands, and crack on and do it myself.

So there I am, quite happily cutting, pruning and sawing the brambles, into manageable lengths into a neat pile for disposal. - Plus Im making a pretty good job of it to, even if I say so myself....

During the time I'm doing it, (I was there for well over an hour) about 20 people in total walked past me - Nearly every single one of them stopped and said...

You don't wanna do that mate - SOMEONE'S GOING TO DO IT ON SATURDAY ANYWAY...

& it just makes me wonder - Who do they think is going to do it on Saturday? The bloke who wrote the note is in his late 80s... All these people who are telling me 'Someone's going to do it Saturday' are the people who have been ASKED to do it Saturday...

But they all seem to think SOMEONE ELSE is going to do it...

Anyway, at least its done - I just don't get some people.

You're very accurate - the days have gone by where people like helping out others. Community events to clean up are laughed at with the attitude of let someone else do it.

I try and teach my kids the lesson of that. My kids during winter will clean and shovel snow off driveways of elderly and those who've just had babies. Every time it snows. My eldest does it naturally now and it's engrained now that helping others is okay and normal.

Sadly today you don't find that anymore - maybe random stories but fewer and fewer. So good for you - trying to make a difference and helping out the community. Although they may have said that to you - trust me - they went home and thought about it - realizing their selfishness and lack of caring. Hopefully Saturday a few more showed up because they saw you cared.

I'm surprised someone from the council didn't come along and tell you you can't do that because you haven't done a proper health and safety risk assessment, not wearing the correct PPE etc etc.
