Places like Arizona are a newer phenomenon. Can't be explained by german/irish immigration.
It's possible that certain "types" of people end up flocking to the same area these days. Just because we're politically correct these days, doesn't mean our subconscious doesn't affect our decisions on where to live, and the people to be around

I think a lot of it has to do with social situations - namely that wealthy attractive people tend to marry other attractive people, and good genes get passed down that way. The more expensive areas I've lived in have had more attractive people.
Then again when I was a kid my parents had a weekend house in this hell-hole on a huge lake in a town called (and this is no bullshit) Gun Barrel City. I don't even have to tell you the lack of talent there.Comment

IMO, its survival of the fittest.
Maybe in NC there are a lot of rich men who prefer attractive blonde women, so fatties and brunettes got phased out as time went on.
Same with some of the richest area in the US, they are full of hot skinny chicks like Manhattan NY and San Diego. If you go to areas of "old money" you will find rich fat women, like Georgia and Connecticut where the women didn't have to marry into it with their looks, but merely had to stay alive long enough to have the trust fund.
Now when you get to places like central Pennsylvania women here (not all of them) are pretty fucking disgusting. Thats because they adapt to their surroundings. They see other women stuffing their face at the Olive Garden and that becomes acceptable. Eating 1500 calories at one meal is the norm.
There are no beaches here, no modeling agencies, no movie studios, so they only have to impress men with their "looks." most of the white trash guys consider themselves lucky to even have something with a vagina talk to them, let alone father their 8 kids.
then the cycle continues over and over and over until people here get so fat and ugly, that there are no more benches at the Olive Garden, only chairs with no arms so the 400lb fat women can enjoy their endless salad and bread sticks
