Tech What are you using to email clean lists these days?

What are you all using to mail these days? Tech? Best practices? Cleaning?

I've tried a bunch of options over the years, but which ones inbox seems to change over time.

Inbox delivery will be a nonstop changing game that you will need to play with and test.

I personally use Sendy on most of my projects. Many of my clients use Sendy as well, PHP List is also a popular option. Both of these are free or inexpensive scripts that you would run from your server, not a mailing service. If using one of these, make sure your hosting company is cool with that.

Thanks so much for your insight. For different brands, do you do a separate Sendy install?

I used to use phplist, with multiple installs. I think there is a new version now. I stopped because it got a lil buggy for a while.

I've heard mixed things on whether SES is touchy about adult. What have you seen on this? Not that I mail any nude or explicit graphics anyway.

As far as I know YNOT Mail is the only real "adult friendly' mailing list service.

I have heard the same about SES and adult so I no longer do adult with it just to be safe.

I use Sendy for multiple brands, it's pretty slick. They have a nice little community of people as well, though PHP List seems a lot larger and a wide array of plug-ins.

What Sly said. It's a nonstop changing game. You can be sending out on a regular basis and all of a sudden one word you use or a combination of words you use upsets Gmail so you make changes and now you have problems with Apple and so on and so forth.

Programs or sites that "test" email addresses... never seem to work. Your best bet is to clean your list by only sending to people who have opened up email from you in the past...

Stay away from bad words, don't use nudity, and the less text you have the better...

I used Interspire with smtp.com for a while. Interspire went through a period of not updating and I switched to https://www2.octeth.com/

Have used them with Mandrill, till Mandrill shut shop, and have been successfully using sparkpost.com with octeth for several years now.

I did email sparkpost and ask if they were ok with adult content. All they cared about was that my lists were clean, I managed bounces responsibly, made it easy for people to unsubscribe. They take bounce rates and spam complaints seriously. But that just means I need to keep cleaner lists - as I should.

I built my own emailing platform backed by AWS SES for sending though.
