Rant Someone talk me out of getting back into this industry.

Yesterday after driving home from doing some conservation stuff with the National Wildlife and Fish Hatchery Department (We're growing mussels, a critical ecological creature that is in danger) and I had this stupid idea to budget $50k to buy and grow a porn site.

I haven't really been in this industry for a decade now (wow, feels like a long time ago) and I really already understand what it would take to get something going and all I see is "don't do it" but for some reason, I can't kick the idea.

Well depends on what you're planning on doing - what niche etc.

Normally I would always say listen to your gut but if you still feel the urge ask yourself why you want to get back in. Is it potential for money? networking? lifestyle? babes? There are many reasons - figure out which one and decide whether it's worth it.

The 50k can start a good site but depending on what I described above it may or may not go fast.

It all depends really on what you enjoy and what the motivation is, profit or pastime. With a healthy budget you could even consider buying a distressed asset and perhaps improving it, rather than starting from scratch. There is a lot of good and easily accessible software and hosting technology out there, larger ambitions have never been so affordable as they would relate to these items and associated bigger storage or bandwidth as it might be.

One of my products is a cloud hosting platform (like Vercel/Heroku/Netlify), so servers aren't a problem. I'm a software engineer by trade, so software isn't a problem.

I just think I'll get bored too easily or waste my time.

I've been waiting 3 days for a writer to do ONE 1000 word review article

then there is the people who are moaning about low sales and how adult isn't the same anymore. These are the same people who were probably saying the same in 2015, 2010, 2005

Nah the amount of work to even make a profit is useless, back a decade ago it was still shit tier. I make more off my indie hacker community with like 300 visitors a day than I ever did on any adult sites that had 10's of thousands of visitors a day.

My company is funded and profitable, so I don't think I really care to ever get back into adult, I've got what is considered a highly sought after skillset, being a "10x developer" or in my case, a "10x indie hacker" meaning I can code, I can market, I can design, I can do everything to a very high degree by myself. So I'll stick to building my mainstream businesses where I'm paid handsomely to travel the world.
