Cool move, but I wonder how long it could be viable. It just takes one member to post the number on a blog or forum before the whole world has it and is calling...great for building public perception of you, but how many calls can you live with before you have to kill the number? Likewise for that obsessive, stalker fan who calls 100 times/day.
Maybe you could set up a daily passcode that has to be machine verified or a rotating extension number before it actually gets to you. That may minimize the non-member calls, but you'll still get some obsessed members who you'll ultimately have to block.
One last concern: If this is a personal landline, then make sure your address is not available to that same stalker fan... Good luck with it!Comment

She is having this forwarded to her cell phone with absolutely no vetting of who can call. So she is going to be driving down the street, shopping for groceries, eating dinner, etc. and the phone will ring.
Then she is supposed to ask: Hey are you a member?

Second of all she would have to pull out a list of members...don't know how many she has, but CM for instance has over 2,000.
Third...all it takes to thwart that already un-do-able idea is to post the phone number and your username on the boards.
I still don't believe this has been thought out correctly. This is already being done by others as I stated earlier in a method that ensures that members only are allowed to call and they never actually have your personal phone number to keep.
I'm sure that after she tries this for a few days, she will need to go back and tweak this out. No need to try and re-invent the wheel. There is already a method that has been proven successful through trial and error.

I'm definitely not being disrespectful to you. And I applaud you for the interaction. But when it comes to internet porn and the things that you can do...I certainly do have more than a clue. And all I'm saying is that if you are just giving out a phone number on your site as you say you are doing...then you are going to find out real quick how bad of an idea that is. You just think they are stealing your entire members area...watch how fast that phone number gets abused. I hope you are able to make the idea work. But just giving out your phone number is not the way to do it. There are ways to interact with your actual members over the phone. But neither I nor my programmers can see where giving out your actual number and only having a current member be able to call it is feasible by just posting your phone number.
Forgive me if I'm ignorant and you aren't really doing that, but have some kind of a system in place. I'm just going by what you're saying...which is that you have posted an actual phone number in the members area. That isn't gonna stay members only. Just like unprotected videos don't.-Robbie

And retention is the difference between being rich and being poor.
Sabrina is on the right track. We do the same thing as far as allowing members to shoot scenes with CM, etc. Interaction is the only thing that the pirates can't steal.

I don't see why anyone would knock her for trying this, whether or not it's been done before, it's a pretty smart move from a marketing/business stand point. Sure it can have it's setbacks, and end up not being as easy to keep up with, or have the right outcomes, but it's not like the operation can't be shut down if it does, without any major backlash.
It'll be interesting to see how this turns out over the next few months!

The number forwards to her cell phone, and we can turn it off, send directly to voice mail, or she can answer it any time she wants.

She doesn't charge anything, she actually answers the phone when it's convenient for her, and it gets used quite often. And, the way we have it set up, only existing members can call her.
And, she has the number forward to her cell phone so she can answer it, send to voicemail, etc. at her discretion. But, she knows the second the phone rings if it's a member calling or if it's something else (family, etc.). I could see some some awkward moments if a member calls while you're at dinner with family and you decide to answer it. And comparing giving your number to a stranger (member) and a best friend isn't even close to the same.
You think our ideas are totally different, but in reality the members get the exact same end result and know no difference. I applaud you if that's what you do and it makes you feel better that they have your "actual" number.

I don't think anything. I'm stating a fact. My fans (not just my members) can have my telephone number and call me whenever they want (yes also for Xmas dinner, since i don't hide my job to anyone). Now, that is simply different from instructing members to send their voice through a system which forwards it to a cell phone. Marketing wise it is extreeeeemely different, as a mater of fact.
