    Couch to 5k? Runners?

    Anyone completed it?
    http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml

I'm starting week 2... using the iphone app... loving it...

Feel AMAZING... cannot wait to get to weeks 5-6-7...

my plan is to do a few 5k and 10ks this fall... Then a half marathon next spring...

and eventually I'd like to get into adventure racing... and the small iron-lady competitions... I don't think I could ever do a full size one.. but they have the mini ones that would be badass...

The Iphone app actually plays over your music... and tells you when to run, walk.. so you don't ever have to look at watch or the timer on the treadmill... It made everything seamless for me...

Before that.. I'd spend too much time obsessing over the clock on the treadmill.. now I just cover it up with a towel...

And there are groups and everything online where fat, skinny, short, tall, old, young people all make it through the program... so it's got me kinda psyched.

          just search "couch" in itunes...

I bought the 2.99 one... dunno if its any better than the 1.99 one...

But I just know the 2.99 specifically stated that it talks over your own music to tell you to run/walk....

That is very cool, congrats so far and best of luck to you! It is easy to get out of the habit but make sure you stretch and stretch a lot.

                  I have to ask...

Why running? Just cause you want to do 5k's or 10k's or is your goal for endurance or weight loss?

If it's the latter, there are way better ways to do it than running. Running actually causes a lot of wear and tear on your body through impact damage.

                    Just a personal goal..
Always been the little fat girl... and running has always been something I wanted to do... I'm down 40ish lbs... plan to be down about 80ish in 4 more months....

also transfer-addiction... with the weightloss/giving up food... ya gotta transfer your addiction/time to something else..

And it's something easy to goal set with... gives ya something to look forward to... work for...

and I figure gym/running is better than shopping ;)

Well, a real weight loss plan is about 90% diet and 10% exercise. Low intensity cardio before breakfast and after a workout, or an HIIT program is your best bet. You can still run if you absolutely want to, but the idea is to work smarter, not harder, and MOST people just end up wreaking havoc on their body without getting any decent results. If I were you, I'd get a personal trainer or do some research on how to diet and exercise properly. Not trying to shit in your cheerios or anything, but this program doesn't look very good. Especially without a diet program to accompany it.

No I'm doing is strictly because I want to....
The weights gonna come off either way with the diet change.
I just want to. I'm doing many other things too on the off days... pilates, spinning, hiking, other equipment...

And I had a personal trainer for two years... as well as was on a detox nutrition plan with one of the top endo docs in the nation... lost 30lbs max... and developed hormone issues worse than what I started with...

Had the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. Weight is coming off. hormone issues fixed... lost 85% of my stomach... the left side that produces ghrelin and contributes to hormone production....

Running is just a personal goal now... and if I start developing body issues with wear and tear.. i'll chuck it and go elsewhere. so far so good. I"ve not even got the shin splints that most complain of getting...

I just posted because it really is a great way to get into it.. I know quite a few people who literally did go from couch to 5k.. and love what the program did for them...

My lifestyle is changed. Life will never be the same again, and I'm grateful... I just REALLY would like to become a runner.

Sounds like you had a shitty personal trainer. In 2 years you could safely lose over a hundred pounds if they knew what they were doing (which they obviously didn't) you don't need detox bullshit, or even supplements. You just need to know how to monitor your nutrition correctly. It sounds like they didn't have you on the right percentage (and right kind) of fats, so your body adjusted it's metabolism, but there could be several reasons why your body stopped losing fat. Most people think a diet is about eating less. It's not. It's about reprogramming your metabolism. Until you do that your body will just want to gain the weight back. It's easy to lose weight, but losing it safely and keeping it off is the hard part.

Well I'm happy as can be.. had my labs last week... and usually I have the testosterone of a dude... and I'm like a chick again... I have the waist of a chick again..

Most trainers.. when I'd tell them I had hormone issues.. and discuss PCOS with them.. and birth control/metformin.. would just tell me that I'm making excuses.. I'm not doing things right.. I'd give a food journal.. and they'd say I was lying... it was all a bad experience..

But I'm in control of things now.. and never, ever felt better.

I love to run although haven't been doing as much of it lately. Just a couple months ago, I was running (2) 5ks a week and it really does make you feel accomplished.

Good luck to you. Running is about pushing your limits - 9 times out of 10 when you feel like you have to stop, you really don't. I feel like I have to stop at mile 2.5 almost every time but somehow I manage to make it.

If it's just a personal goal then more power to ya. I just wanted to make sure you knew what you were doing. I've literally run thousands of miles and can tell you from personal experience and from studying, that running will only get you so far in terms of weight loss and it can have long term effects on your body. Having said that, it can definitely give you a sense of accomplishment and can be highly addictive. Just make sure you're not doing it for the wrong reasons.

                                Good luck.

I run 6.2km around my block 3-4 times aweek, I feel like shit when I dont get to run.

very addicting habit that I have picked up.

That's what I liked best about it, the power of your mind over your body...

I used to love running, a couple of years ago I was doing about 50km a week. Once you stop though, it's so hard to get back into it

I bookmarked it for my girlfriend. Its a bit too easy for me but I'll maybe do it with her for company. In summertime I run round a park close to my home with the dog. Its 6.5km and I do it in 36-40 minutes.
