Pirate Bay has been shut down by Swedish court

But the amount of piracy will drop dramtically. Just because wal-mart can't STOP shoplifting doesn't means they don't try to reduce it?unfortunately even if we get every studio to release a movie across the world at the same time on multiple media platforms, you will still have people that will figure out how to rip it and share it for free....nature of the human race and even more the nature of people that run/visit/download from these types of sites...even if you release it at the same time, people will still want a free copy and someone will give it to them...
as you said some people don't like going to the theaters. If that person want to see it bad enough and his only other option is getting from a torrent site he'll do it. Its not that he doesn't want to pay he just wants his movie NOW. If he has the option of getting the movies NOW then he's much less likely to pirate. I've fucked around with these torrents enough to know they are a pain in the fucking ass and slow as hell. Why someone would CHOOSE to have that as their PREFERED way of getting content is beyond me. Of course they'll ALWAYS be the freeloaders that wants everything for free.Comment

I live in my own time...and when someone cracks that "code", we'll fix it and stop them again. Better than just sitting back and doing nothing. I prefer to make money.

oh i agree...i am in no way defending any torrent sites....i would love to stop spending my day having to look at these sites for my content...
and yes, if studios would offer it out there it would make piracy less likely....just like there will always be shoplifters, there will always be pirates...but that doesnt mean as a whole we sit back and do nothing....
solve the studio release issue and you take a huge bite out of piracyComment

A good start to what? One tracker out of thousands on the DHT... big fucking deal. If you have the MD5 hash to the file, you continue with no issues at all.
Now trackers know not to set up shop in Sweden. Which other country will step in to host illegal trackers... this is the next step and is only a matter of time.

Well...people that always defend the torrents always pointed to the pirate bay as the reason it could never be stopped. And guys like gideongallery would always say that his side always "wins".A good start to what? One tracker out of thousands on the DHT... big fucking deal. Now trackers know not to set up shop in Sweden. Which other country will step in to host illegal trackers... this is the next step and is only a matter of time.
Now that has changed. I think it's a pretty big deal. And I've had a big smile on my face all day thinking of the possible implications that the precedent might set and the possibility that if the mainstream hollywood companies now come at it again full bore with their attorneys, real change could happen to protect people's work and return all of us back to a money making business instead of something that the whole world now thinks is free
I'd also like to remind you that you can pretty much DMCA anybody and get your stuff down. EXCEPT the pirate bay. They refused to take anything down for anybody. And they were the biggest.
So add it all up and yes it does mean something. It's a big victory for people who make a living in so many different industries. This is the first step. Yeah, they might find a way to get back online temporarily. And they might be able to run for a while. But they are on the run now.

Reality is he's been frantically searching the internet all day long to try and find some legal mumbo jumbo that he can use to explain why this is all just some stupid judge who will soon be overturned.
The guy is so delusional and full of visions of grandeur that he is now in full panic mode that his playhouse is crumbling.
I'm sure if he can't find anything on Wikipedia, he'll at the very least come on here and repeat his mantra about VCR's. And then he'll try and convince us all that a Supreme Court ruling on cable television is the final say on content theft on the internet.
At least it's fun watching him act a fool.

So what if some judge decides to do the same with porn?
So how did we all make money back in the 70s when you could not show half what we can today? So long as men will jerk off they will pay for pictures to stimulate them to an erection.
Not that some judge making such a decision would hurt us, lots of countries ban porn. The main ones we sell to are ones where porn is accepted. But I can see how this would scare the daylights out of any site that has content on it the site does not own and can't verify.
And this is why these freesites will come down eventually, sad it takes somewhere like Sweden to make the first step. Should be the US or EU.Comment

as posted in the streaming only thread when dane was originally bragging about thisI'm thinking that's just dns not finished yet. I can't get to .org or .com (not even sure if it was a .com or not because I purposefully wouldn't go there)
Where is gideongallery?

Time for him to come in here and make a bunch of excuses.
And though it's still early in all of this, this could very well be a turning point that could mean a lot of lost revenue coming back to all of us in the coming months.
http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-b...rities-090824/
so this ruling resulted in 3 hours of downtime, millions of dollars of free publicityAs expected, The Pirate Bay site relocated and is back online (DNS still has to update for some people). A Pirate Bay insider told TorrentFreak that they ?got a new connection to the net.? The tracker is still down and is expected to be fully operational tomorrow morning, we were told. Ever since their servers were raided back in 2006 they were prepared for takedown attempts like this.
and a new shirt for sale in the pirate bay store.

and we haven't even got to any of the substantive reasons for appeal that the pirate bay have in their conviction for "assisting in copyright infringement" for timeshifting tv shows (73% of the infringements) in which there was no proof that they were involved in the transaction (because the stupid cops turn dht on, and used a client that prioritized local peers over getting seeds from the tracker)
whoo hoo lets all celebrate the 3 hours of downtime

you mean the precedent of spending a million dollars, and months of time investigating, years of time trying to convice the police to do another investigation, to get a conviction so you can get their internet cut off in one country only to have them move their connection to another so that the process would have to start all over again.
wow what a fantastic win
let all party like it 1899.
i guess that all you can expect from someone who is so clueless that they believe copying wayne's world in porn is "creative".
i will bet you that the pirate bay will successfully get the conviction overturned before that cycle happens in another country.Comment

gideongallery, everyone knew they would relocate. They already had that backup. But you are missing the big picture here; torrent sites are on the flee. In Sweden it is literally stupid to host it now, and the citizens have lost their privacy.
And did you read this:
Btw, I am not bragging about anything. I have bought a lot of content, also transfered some copy right, but this has not seen the public light yet. I found another way...Mininova has lost its civil dispute with Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN. The judge ruled that Mininova is not directly responsible for any copyright infringement, but ordered it to remove all torrents linking to copyrighted material within three months, or face a penalty of up to 5 million euros.
http://torrentfreak.com/mininova-ord...rrents-090826/
I don't brag, but just point out the stupidity - things that are already predicted.
You can troll so much you want on this board, by copy and paste words and "arguments" from torrent communitity into here, but it does not change anything. People are on the flee, people are sentenced to fines and jail, and all your mumbo jumbo won't change a dime. You have only proven who you are.
I think you should grow up, and start reflecting on this instead:
The pirate community think they are on some kind of mission, but it is doomed to fail. On all aspects. Writers, artists, musicians, porn industry... they have always been the groups fighting for freedoms and the ones who have accomplished much. If you want to "hijack" their fight, that is fine, but it won't help if you point them out as enemy and take away their living. Instead of LOLing and repost T-Shirts photoshopped at the local high-school; Open your eyes - look at all the stupidity I have pointed out - what do you really see? Who is the "winner"?Comment

well if the digital signature system of MPAA can't tell the difference between a parody (ala downfall parodies) and the real content. this is going to result in a lot of censorship.gideongallery, everyone knew they would relocate. IF there are enough complaints this will get reversed.
you keep jumping all over these little wins. Again read the case law, did they ever mention that supreme court of US just recently ruled that public transmission is no longer public performance. That creating 1000 copies of a show from a single data stream and giving it to 1000 people so they could play it in privately in their homes, was not automatically infringing anymore, and that when that act was for the purpose of timeshifting. No infringement, exist.
No they won by covering up a key case.
The best you can say is that this win could be the result of trickery or because the laws are a changing in your favor and you don't know which it is until they take into account both cases.Last edited by gideongallery; 08-26-2009, 10:41 AM.Comment

Yes, that happened in South Korea.

So gideongallery, it looks like the new acquisition will go through and they will buy Peerialism for 100 million Swedish kroner. Are you going to buy share in their "new revenue stream"?Comment
