doesn't canada not extradite if the punishment for the crime is capital punishment? so in reality he could've just been stuck in canadian jails for years. roundabout way this seems better

No extradition from Canada if the person is facing a death sentence in another country.

It's a rather fucked policy IMO.

There are 2 ways to do it.. either agree not to have death as part of the penalty phase, or extradite him on other charges first and then charge with murder later.

Personally, I think they kinda screwed the pooch a little filing the murder charges when they did. I mean, numbnuts killed himself so it's a bit of a moot point.. but knowthing this guy was Canadian and knowing he was heading for the boarder with a sizeble jump on authorities they should have filled the initial charges for something like "abuse of a corpse", just so they could get him back quicker and easier and then hit him with the book when he's back on american soil.
