I do belive this: do not believe Russia would use nuclear weapons and I believe Putin is a rational actor.
Putin spent entire adult life setting this up. Like when the Germans attacked the French at the beginning of World War II.
Hitler's generals told him he could never beat the French. Hitler understood French politics and he knew that he could take France so he attacked.
