Fuck bipartisanship! It's clear the GOP is never going to agree to ANYTHING!

Hopefully enough Dems can unite, and introduce some REAL healthcare reform, after years of allowing the insurance companies to run the show!

wow, they just wont listen to the American people. Nobody wants this shitty government-run healthcare and they keep forcing it down our throats. Obama just hit a new low in his approval rating according to Gallop poll. I say let them keep pushing for something a majority of Americans don't want, let them keep digging that hole, lol. The only reason some of you are for this(and you really ARENT, when i think of all the fatcats in here who vote democrat, but when the shit hits the fan they'd never settle to be like millions of normal americans and actually wait for in a line for some shitty doctor appointed by the government to take care of them!) healthcare is because it's considered a loss to your Dear Leader if this fails. I'm glad some Democrats have the cojones to call this disaster out for what it really is. It's nice to agree with some on the other side once and awhile, especially about who will take care of us when we eventually grow old and wither.

Like I said I'm all for the other side pushing this. I hope the Democratic leadership continues to label people who question a bill no ones even read "Nazis". I'm enjoying this. and no, I don't believe you would jump for joy once you become sick or very old to wait in line for a shitty government doctor; you've already been to the DMV. So I mean obviously you're a big supporter of the guy, I'm happy for you, I see you don't want him to fail. But this is a battle he won't win and if they keep fighting for this, the Republicans have the edge on this issue when you consider the majority of Americans voice the same opinions that the Republicans do which is : Yes, government-run institutions are a nightmare and most of the time don't work, government get the hell out of our way.

It is a public option in addition to the private options. It will allow you to remain in any healthcare coverage situation that you have now if you choose to.

It is not government healthcare for all. It is an additional choice in the system and it can bring in competition that will force private health insurers to behave responsibly with regard to managing costs and actually treating their customers right to retain them.

Ohhhhh yeah, while their trade organizations work quietly in the background organizing against it, sending noisy people to town hall meetings to shout it down pouring millions of dollars into media advertising against it while pretending to be private citizens just like you.

The drug companies do not want to have to moderate their prices for anything.

I see where you are coming from with "the government can't run shit" point of view. You believe this because it has been fed to you over a long time through high level marketing. There is a whole faction of people who believe government can't do anything right. If you put shitty people like BUSH in office, then you get a shitty government. Example...Bush appointed Micheal Brown(11 years overseeing horse trial judges and stewards for the Arabian Horse Association) head of FEMA. BUSH did this all over the government making it shitty. When you have the right people in government that believe government is for the people then you get better results.

Your hate for any thing government is insulting to many people who put their lives on the line everyday. Next time you get assaulted make sure to go to your private police department. Next time your house is on fire refuse the fire department help and call your private fire department....

Next time you are on the highway, get the off and go on your private road.

Government works if you make it work.

For those of you against healthcare reform, what are your suggestions because the current system is unsustainable.

                                1) Insurance companies keep shifting the cost to policy holders. It's the only way for them to make more and more money each quarter. They have to pay for less and less services. This is not going to change. Insurance companies are just like any other company, they have to work the numbers every quarter to meet or beat wall street estimates.

                                2) Medical care keeps going up faster than inflation or wages. Unlike technology, medical care is always going up, it never goes down.

How do you suggest those two issues be reconciled so that more people can be insured and the people that are insured, can have better care?

exactly in addition look at the demographics that supported him and look at the choices they make in other things in life personal or business.

This health care business is a complete scam. The Obama money machine is already broke so he needs for "We the People" to fork over more cash to float his agenda along. Did you ever ask yourself why this public "funded" option doesn't even begin until after the next election? They say it will take time to get it going. Well it only took Medicare 11 months to get rolling and they didn't have anywhere close to the technology we have now. And that's if not a disguise to bail out the insurance industry which i likely is. I'd make a bet we'll be bailing out more than AIG before too long.

I DARE a Republican to propose a bill to eliminate Medicare. It's been around 44 years now, and as much as it is constantly labeled as a bad idea by the right-wingers, they know it would be political suicide to EVER propose a plan to eliminate it!

Why? Because the majority of Americans are not corporate shills, and they actually benefit greatly from this government run program.

DMV runs pretty smoothly NJ. Your state must suck.

Medicare works better than private insurance.

                                      Medicaid needs help,,,,thats another issue.

                                      Social Security needs help....

"Government is the problem" came from Reagan and conservative minions. Less government meant less regulation and see where that has lead us....

Come to think of it, I have been to the DMV. And I was stunned.

It was very large, had over 100 windows, and most of them were staffed. I walked up the front desk, got a ticket, and two minutes later I was standing in front of one of those windows getting my problem resolved.

Come to think of it, I was in and out of DMV a lot quicker than I was even admitted into the ER the last time I went.

Basically, a lot of "anti" information in this thread is pure non-sense. I find it particularly hilarious given:

1.) Republicans under Bush passed the prescription drug care benefit a trillion dollar un-funded program.

2.) Medicare and VA are geninue real government run health care, have huge satisfaction rates, and "oddly" are not voted against by the "government can't run anything" crowd.

3.) the same crowd has no issues with defense spending -- something that is truly dragging down GDP spending and those yelling "statist" and what not have no problems with, and ignore.

4.) the people receiving the largest give-aways from both Bush and Obama have been Investment Bankers, Hedge Funds, Private Equity folks not the poor -- so please [bold] STFU [/bold] about people making bad decisions and being rewarded that's absolute bullshit.

Let's not forget the Fed Reserve basically GIVING away billion dollar profits to IBers.
And then accepting lower than market rates on the shitty CDO products.

Lastly to say the government can't get anything right -- as I recall the government has done a pretty good job of fostering the growth and development of the Internet, and for the most part prevented any one corporate entity from monopolistic behavior without choking commercial growth.

Oh yeah, in California it was "Mr. Conservative" Ronald Reagan himself that banned people from bringing licensed and LEGAL guns to political rallies with the Mulford Act.

The DMV and Post Office examples are totally false.

Generally speaking, the DMV operates pretty smoothly. I've never had them screw anything up of mine and I can get in and out when I need to renew my license within an hour. If you actually sit in a DMV, the biggest problem is the customers who show up not knowing what they are suppose to do, coming in with improper or incomplete paperwork, or not understanding the procedures. If you show up to the teller with all your paperwork in order, you are out the door very quickly.

As for the post office. How often is your mail missing or a check doesn't arrive? Almost never. If the Post Office was so terrible you would see countless threads on GFY asking "where's my check" but the old adage of something being lost in the mail is used by people who never sent the check to begin with. Considering the billions (over 200 billion) pieces of mail they handle each year, the failure rate is very low. I've had UPS and Fedex screw up more packages than the Post Office and I get way more stuff via the mail. Not to mention, the post office ran a balanced budget as recently as 2005 so a huge government agency can run successfully and not lose money.

I guess the question is, who do you want between you and your doctor?

                                                      - a corporation: who can tell you to fuck off and deny you coverage whenever they feel even though you paid for years.

                                                      - a government: needs no introduction..it's just fucked.

Revamp our privatized system where there are limits on liability so doctors can get insurance at a fair rate thus reducing the cost of insurance or a complete and utter turnover of healthcare to the government where we have a socialized system.

It still has to get 60 votes in the Senate, they don't have the votes there. They would have to go with a nuclear option and that would make the Senate a war zone for many years.

It's funny!, that no one on the left said anyone who was protesting against Bush's policies were paid to be there.

OH!, and I forgot that 60 votes in needed to stop debate. Which means this or any other bill can still be fillibustered. Remember you guy's can't count on Kennedy or even Byrd. Byrd is actually against this process of high jacking the Senate.

So you really only have if you add up all the real votes in the Senate, about 54 votes. You won't get any southern Democrats to vote for this. To be honest I am for things to be passed by 51 votes, but you must not remember that Bush had more than 51 Republican Senators, but still would not pull the trigger on the nuclear option.

Balls in your court. Push it through and live with the consequences. Either way I am covered and have no worries for me.

All I am saying is make sure everyone is covered or rework what we have and make it affordable. Either is fine with me but having a system that leaves people without healthcare is not acceptable.
