    feigned outrage about Dog fighting?

Is it all just feigned outrage about dog fighting?

I don't think people really have a problem with cruelty to animals -- PETA has nausiating videos of animals produced to be eaten -- chickens, pigs, steer -- being raised and slaughtered in disgusting squalor. There's also videos of puppy mills, mink mills and other corporate set-ups where animals are raised and have zero quality of life. However, people really don't seem to care about this on the same level of the dog-fighting bit.

Also, it seems to be a cultural thing cock fighting is legal in places and bull fighting is legal as well, also rodeos in the U.S. .

Horse racing events are also pretty hard on the horses...

Beyond that MMA and Boxing is legal for humans...

Should there be laws against dog fighting, cock-fighting and bull-fighting in the U.S.?

Just wondering what people think -- especially libertarians and small government types.

breathe, then read and challenge the assumptions on dog fighting.

There are lots of examples of sports that many consider cruelty to animals: horse racing, rodeos, etc. that the U.S. has deemed acceptable. And sports such as bull fighting, which Hispanics in S. America and Europe find perfectly acceptable.

I'm not explicitly comparing horse racing to dog fighting; however, rodeos and bull fighting obviously get closer and closer.

I am asking if people really do have problems with cruelty to animals considering animals are raised in horrible conditions, slaughtered and then eaten, in addition to plenty of sports where animals are stressed out and abused -- dog racing is another.

so, why does the government get to determine one part of the spectrum is not acceptable? Why not the market place?

If you follow the cruelty to animals logic in order for people to be geniunely concerned about animal cruelty they should stop eating meat, and feeding meat products to their pets -- and possibly avoid having pets at all.

Precisely I don't get it. Cruelty to animals is wrong, but people dont' deserve health care.

I will leave my personal life out of this thread, but I definitely voice my opinion against dog fighting and also try to live a life without having to kill animals to exist.

Nah I get that, that to me is consistent. Although I dislike PETA's grandstanding, I'm saying feeding your dog factory non fit for human consumption beef, while complaining about dog fighting is a bit weird

I kill animals and eat them, I enjoy hunting, I like dogs, I like guns, I hate horses.

All I'm saying is I'd find it personally weird that French people like horse meat or that people feed horses to dogs. Anyway you get the arbitrary nature of people's outrage about something that is really just a preference (not even a consistent choice about animals).

Anyone who actually takes care of their animals will obviously not feed them that crap they sell at the stores and call "dog food"

Again, im not going to get into this thread and post about my life as it seems to irritate many just merely posting it, but there are better things one can feed their dog than any consumer store based products. Most just wont spend the money to feed them well.

The hypocrisy you speak of is exactly why I started becoming the way i am. I dont even wear leather anymore ;)

Hey, Pamela Anderson is with PETA. She can make outrage about dog fighting, while making porn at the same time.

PETA loses all credibility when they come out with retarded press releases condemning things like the president swatting a fly. They are their own worst enemy.
