I don't know how people can use GoDaddy... first, when you sign up for an account they spam your home address with junk mail... and sell off your name to whomever they wish. Second they have about 30 upsells on the way to pick up a domain name.... AARRRGH!

I go with Joker.com It's quick, easy, painless, no upsells, and they don't sell your info and/or spam you.

Regarding junk mail Eric, that may have been your experience, but fortunately not mine. We have thousands of domains with them. Regarding upselling, that is smart on their part. There is a thin profit margin on registrations, and its made up on other products. There are buttons that allows you to navigate away from most of the upsell options.

Customer Service is available 24/7 at GoDaddy unlike most of the other companies.

I have been using GoDaddy for about 6 years with small issues here and there. I also have Yahoo hosting for some mainstream sites and godaddy is much easier to navigate and they dont snatch up domains your looking to buy like other places.

Once a month my godaddy ftp goes down and i cant login to upload anything. they still dont know why it happens but its magic when they reboot the machine my site is on it works again.

Glad you didn't get the spam like I did! I know it was them as they were the only place I ever associated my name with a client I was working for and suddenly I was getting CC processor junk mail, business CC offers, etc... at an alarming rate.

Well they're certainly entitled to upsell away but... Why would I want to use a service where I have to go through 3 extra clicks of avoiding trash to just perform a simple task EVERY TIME I want to register a domain? Especially when there's so many other services out there that are just as cheap (if not cheaper) and I can perform the action I want to perform in less time with less hassle.

And over the past 12 years I've never needed to call support for registering a domain name...

I have 30 or so at Go Daddy, Most of mine at Namecheap and Baronets. The biggest mistake I ever made was registering domains with Ipower, I still have 15 or so names there that I can't seem to get transferred away. I have had situations there where I have paid for renewals and then found they were trying to sell the domain.

It depends on how valuable the domains / sites are.

I'd say for most choices moniker.com is probably the best.
They have good turn around via customer service and they do not try to sell you to death.

If you are going for price / value I'd choose 1and1.com decent customer service, excellent prices. 1and1.com has upsells, but they are tasteful about them unlike godaddy. Godaddy has also done some sketchy stuff in regard to selling expired names.

I echo Best, I have one name left at godaddy and ONLY ONLY ONLY use them to buy at their tdnam (until Icann implements a fairer domain drop system), or when I buy a godaddy registered name.

                            I can not stand godaddy.
                            To recap.

Most people should be happy with 1and1.com for value and service.

set-up service wise, but more expensive is moniker.com

If you need something inc 500 secure I'd go with fabulous.com...

If you need something fortune 500 secure I'd go with markmonitor.com

Fuck GoDaddy. They spam the shit out of you and upsell like crazy.

We love Directnic.com, costs a little more but it cant get any more straight forward. when updating a DNS it only takes 15 minutes max, where as Godaddy can take 24 hours. blah!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the input.

I will agree, I won't use godaddy, been there and done that....never again.

I like Namecheap and Netfirms. Good pricing. Netfirms whois privacy is currently free, and it is very economical at Namecheap.

Moniker for important domains, Namecheap for less important domains.

And GoDaddy can They locked a domain of mine because "someone complained" (all I could get out of them) and it wasn't even a domain that was in use. Then it's up to you to prove you're innocent, which is, of course, impossible unless you HOST with GoDaddy, so I ended up losing the domain. Luckily it wasn't valuable.

GoDaddy has its good points, but that bald asshole likes to throw weight around.

DirectNIC.com for my main domains, then GoDaddy.com for domain names that I don't want to be linked to (postbots, spam, CL bots, redirects)

I use namecheap, name.com, dynadot, godaddy and moniker.

I like namecheap the best. Good prices, nice clean interface. Live support is great. No complaints with namecheap.

Everyone uses godaddy and that's why I have an account there. They were my first registrar, but the interface is so cluttered with ads and upsells that I don't like it anymore. Their prices aren't that great, either. Good deals to get you to sign up, but the renewal prices suck. A .us at GoDaddy is something like 18 bucks renewal, and it's $8.88 at namecheap, for instance.

Don't go with DirectNic, there are allegations out there that they squat hundreds of thousands of domains for ransom. Google "directnic squatters" for more info.

                                                          Just my on registrars.
