Lunch With A Legend :::

if you could have lunch with a legend...who would it be?

I'm having lunch with a legend tomorrow. A Photographer that I've admired and studied for close to 15 years. A master of light manipulation. His work set the standard for Playboy back in the day. As far as I'm concerned....he's still one of the best in the business. Anybody who knows me ... knows that I think this guy is the god of Glamour Photography (or was in his day). Of course I'm speaking of the legendary Arny Freytag

That would be the guy to beat fo sho. Love his work. Hicks is right there too as well as Ken Marcus.

I agree. I used to work for Hicks and have spent time with Ken Marcus. Arny is the only one that I've admired that I really haven't had a chance to sit down with. If all goes well, tomorrow that will happen and I can die a happy man

Did you know that Arny used to be Ken Marcus's assistant back in the early years at Playboy? Ken has so many great stories about his early years as Penthouse's first American Photographer and his time with Playboy. I'm sure Arny will have some great stories to tell as well. I'll be all ears tomorrow

There was a time when I too aspired to be the next Arny Freytag. I've followed and studied his work from the beginning.

Back then there were two or three photographers that shot the centerfold feature for Playboy and I could almost always tell who shot the pictorial by looking at the girl first. One of the other photographers always seemed to get the fair skinned, big busted brunettes and Arny always got the tan, outdoorsy blondes which were my favorite.

He shot the centerfold and pictorial for one of my friends back in 1990 and she had nothing but nice things to say about him. I remember her telling me that he was single and that all the girls at the mansion were trying to set him up so he wouldn't be alone.

It's rare that someone who dreams about being the best at what they do gets to sit down with the person that actually is the best. Congratulations on living the dream.

I hope you will come back tomorrow and share one good Arny Freytag story with us

Probably Werner Herzog. He is not an adult photographer though but a "mainstream" filmmaker. Check out his documentary "Encounters at the end of the world" for a solid introduction to his work.

Have you seen "Incident at Loch Ness"? I thought it was hysterical. For those unfarmilliar with Herzog it might not be as funny, but you have to appreciate someone who has a healthy sense of humor about themselves.

Hahahahahaha - I used to own that one. I was pretty disappointed in it to tell you the truth. I bought it hoping that Arny would share some of his lighting secrets using flash but it was mostly (if I remember correctly) available light stuff. I'll have to ask him about that today

Lunch with Arny was great! He shared some amazing stories about his life as a Photographer for Playboy. He started off at Playboy...as Ken Marcus's assistant back in the day! They are friends but haven't seen each other in quite a few years. My next project is to set up a lunch and bring these two together! Imagine me, sitting at a table with these legends .... somebody pinch me !!!

When I was a model I shot for him. But that was a few cheesburgers ago...

The black and white polaroids were frameable. I tried to snag one but the female model grabbed it cause she was a fashion model and was afraid anyone would see it. I think it was for Paul Mitchel or something. We were both naked and intertwined. HOT! We had to stop a few time cause we were both getting too aroused. HA!

I think Arny shot me for Playboy "Girls of Radio" but I can't remember if it was him or Kim Mizuno or another staff photographer.
