For lion it's not smacking. He has a high pain threshold. So it's more like a game for him, to make him roar.

what I noticed was the stroking of his paw. my cats fucking hate that, esp when they're feeling cranky (cats do def have moods). equivalent to someone asking about my thoughts/feelings before my morning coffee. just step the fuck off already

The reason you have these is to play to play the dominator and if you don't you end up with one less arm.
