    Converting a wordpress site to new URL

    Anyone have the skills to smoothly & safely convert a wordpress site from site.com to newsite.com ?

    I know there are wp tools to help with this but i'd rather hire someone who has experience to do this for me since I have never done it.

      Not sure if I have done it before, but the process should look like this:
      1) copy over the site content + DB
      2) update 2 values under wp_options table via phpmyadmin ( https://wordpress.org/support/articl...n-the-database )
      3) update also DB_NAME, DB_USER, DB_PASSWORD in the wp-config.php file if needed
      4) test if everything loads fine
      5) redirect the old domain to the new one..

          Duplicator – WordPress Migration Plugin.
          Easy as pie. I've done it about 4 times with absolutely no issues. It is also the best for making a total backup of any WP site. Just follow instructions. The only thing you have to do is set up a new database. When the migration starts, it will ask for the new database info and Bob's your uncle.

              I've never used a migration tool; so here is my experience doing it manually.


              Fixing the URLs in the database is part of it; but uploading the DB fails sometimes and then it has to be done one row at a time.

              How many plugins? Are they customized with hard coded old site URLS?
              How big is the database. Do the new and old DB have the same collation?

                          Could have done this in 15 minutes with Duplicator plugin. Even if you fucked up, it would not affect the original site. Just sayin'
