I would wait to count them out until we see exactly how the Google OS works. The problem with free OS's tends to be that they are not dumb user friendly. With windows I can buy my computer from the store, come home, plug it in and turn it on then be using it in a few minutes. I don't need to learn anything. I only need basic knowledge. Basically if you can fog up a mirror by breathing on it you can do the basic stuff in a windows based computer. Add in that for what you get it is pretty cheap as well.

The main thing that Microsoft has over Google when it comes to OS is licensing agreements. They have a ton of them in place that lets them put windows on OEM machines cheaply. A company like Dell would could offer a laptop with the free Google OS for say $50 less than the Windows laptop, but would they really sell that many? And would selling those harm the deal they have with Microsoft?

To me there are some companies that everyone tries to take down and nobody can simply because they are the industry standard. For Google to take down Microsoft they would have to make an OS that will run all the software that is out there then convince millions of people that their OS is better than the one they are currently using and they will have to convince people buying a new computer to use that OS and assure them that it will work perfectly and be 100% compatible with the system they already have. It is a tall order. Apple hasn't done it, Linux hasn't done it, I don't see Google doing it.
