            heh, old news

Despite the departure of ex-Grokster CEO Wayne Rosso and mounting doubts that Global Gaming Factory can raise funding to purchase and then legalize The Pirate Bay, the company is adamant. GGF CEO Hans Pandeya says everything is on schedule, the investors are in place and the purchase will go ahead on August 27th.

I have a feeling they thought they were getting the site and all its users. When the deal was announced the guys that run pirate bay basically said the site will go on and they will be moving everything to somewhere else so the guys that were buying it basically were just getting the domain name. So like you I always wondered why they wanted that domain so much.

                  care to reference that?

all I heard was them saying they do not know what will happen to the site after it's bought.

This is all I could find right now http://torrentfreak.com/the-pirate-b...ail-on-090705/

Basically in it one of the owners says that GGF is basically buying the domains, the code for the site and the database, but no user info. He also says they have other torrent related projects they will be working on.

I remember reading right when the deal was announced that this guy said they would make sure the trackers were still up and working on other less centralized servers before the sale was final. I don't remember exactly where it was or how it put it, but it made it sound like they would just be shifting a lot of the torrent stuff to another site. Maybe since then he has changed that idea and maybe as the lawsuits keep coming in they might not do that.

I see nothing about other torrent related projects in that article. He says the money will be used for politics? He also mentions VideoBay, not necessarily torrent related.

The fact that they get no user info is because TPB never logged any.

He also says the BitTorrent community would need less centralized servers but he says nothing about him being involved in that.

I think you read it a little bit too fast ;)

I guess I interpreted it a little differently. There is a part that says:
TF: Will the old Pirate Bay team still be working on (new) BitTorrent related projects?

Peter: We?re working hard on other things right now, especially with The Video Bay and some of our personal projects.

I guess I assumed that would include some other torrent projects, but maybe not. Either way I think his immediate future will be spending time in jail and defending himself against other lawsuits.

Here is a different article. This might be the one I read before.
                                  http://news.softpedia.com/news/Pirat...e-115899.shtml

In it he says that they expect the site to continue running as normal (although it does sound like he assumes it would be the new owners running it that way) and also it says something about a site called Open Tracker taking over most of the Pirate Bay's torrents. I have no idea if Pirate Bay has any involvement in Open Tracker, but it sounds like this new site will basically mirror everything on Pirate Bay.

Then the site would be converting at the same rate as any TGP, Tube or similar free site. OK maybe a bit worse. Depending on the price I think it's a good deal for a Tube site.

                                          Ah now I'm following.

There has actually been 3 new trackers launched since the announcement of The Pirate Bay sale. These are all independent trackers backed by other key players in the torrent world.

Essentially this is what they meant with less centralized systems, someone launches a tracker, the next service hosts the torrent (could be any file hosting site) and the third provides the search.

About OpenBittorrent Tracker, it has actually been added to ALL torrents on TPB so it is a functioning mirror. But I don't think TPB owners are involved in the development of this tracker, at least not from what I've read.

                                          Here is more info...

Well, I do not know if the demographics are the same. If the demographics on Alexa is the slightest reliable, I have an much older audience on my own main site. It's the same when comparing to some of the tube sites. Which usually means better economy

Depends on price. If TPB can't give good inro on the demographics then it has to assumed. Risky, but as I say depends on the price.

Yes, the costs are also relative low. They do not host the content.

The biggest risk is the potential lawsuits. Some guys were jailed, and new owners are additionally going to charge for the use? Yeah right. I wouldn't be surprised if the real buyers turn out to be someone who are tired of fighting against the website.

Not sure how much truth there is to this article but supposedly GGF has already been getting bids on The Pirate Bay ranging up to $16million ... turned them all down.

Among the bidders were Napster with $10million
