WSJ reported that Yahoo and MSFT are close to a search deal... Would it fucking matter? I mean, we all know that its easier to pimp Yahoo search with keyword domains/funky backlinks etc but its share of the search pie continues to shrink. Would matching up with Microsoft reverse this erosion or would the merger just be another MASSIVE FAIL kinda like P Diddy's anal rupturing of Led Zepelin's classic, Kashmir?
Would a merged Yahoo and MSN search amount to a hill of shit?

Bing + Yahoo = BooComment

It would give them a combined 30% of search traffic and Bing is growing.
It will be interesting to see if it passes anti-trust but it would make Google nervous I am sure.jim (at) amateursconvert . com Amateurs ConvertComment

My bet is that it breezes through the anti-trust limbo, and has anyone actually used google lately. Its starting to remind me a bit of alta vista. I keep having these "this isn't what the fuck i wanted" moments. Ive actually gotten better search results from bing. Google still makes my money, but im not enthusiastic about their search anymore.
SO based on my extremely biased opinions and the huge value i place on my random thoughts, im going to say this deal has legs.Comment

Bing is evolving daily and starting to produce SERPs like Google did in their beginning. Those targeted SERPs are what fueled the raging G fire back then. They (G) of course have since sold out and approach everything as though they are invincible. I know better.
Everyone (web site owners) seem to think that G is the interweb "know all be all". Hardly, surfers are the "know all be all" and dictate the rules that we all must follow. Buyers rule the market, not sellers. Mainstream or adult, brick'n'mortar or virtual, buyers rule the market place. Give them what they want and they'll seek you out, they'll be the best salesperson you've ever had.

Only for webmasters. That's the problem with 'webmasters', we tend to only hang out with other webmasters and our view becomes skewed and drifts away from the surfer's perspective. You've got to think like a surfer to actually make the internet work for you.

As much as I adamantly hate the name "Bing" (especially when search is starting to move towards real-time aka...hmm, uh, LIVE?!), I really am rooting for MS to keep some momentum going so that the SE game is actually competitive again and Google can get off its ass and improve vs. shifting focus primarily to other ventures like they've been.Want to crush it in mainstream with Facebook ads? Well, it's official. The deal is set. Yahoo gets 80% plus of ad rev generated. It gives up on its search to host bing.
Should be interesting..... Bing SEO pimps FTW!Comment

I cannot (yet) imagine this will make a bi(n)g difference, but could not imagine 10 years ago Google would be where they are today either ...]

I never got much love from Yahoo, so I'm ok with that. Time to learn how a bit about Bing so I can get both SE's in one catch

These days Google is to search engines as Kleenex s to tissues. They are a brand name that has nearly become the generic term. Hard to beat that.Comment
