Registered since early 1990, this domain is OF LEGAL AGE!

Yes, if this domain was a person, it would be old enough to have sex and gamble in Indian reservation casinos!

    Created: 1990-02-16
    Expires: 2010-02-17

Looks surreal to say the least! The domain is:

SynNet(.)com - pronounced "Sin Net" ergo perfectly applicable to an adult network as well as for mainstream (i.e. syndicated networks, synergetic/synergistic networks, etc.)

To give you a ballpark of how incredibly rare a domain of this age is, the oldest 100 domains on the net span from Symbolics(.)com registered 03/15/85 to nynexst(.)com registered 11/30/87 - over a 2 and a half year period! Unfortunately there's no publicized list of oldest names beyond that 100, but given SynNet was registered a mere 2 years and 3 months after that last one and that the # of 1986s on that oldest 100 was only 40, there's a good chance it's one of the 1,000 oldest, maybe even one of the 500 oldest. Oh yea, and this is out of well over 150 MILLION domains registered. If you'd ever heard the term "one in a million", well this is pretty damn close.

So - the name is of course decent and taken in a number of other exts, but the real value of this is in the age, not only as a mere asset to have (domains of this age only get rarer as more registrations happen and more older domains drop) but also as many have indicated, the SEO benefit that an aged domain can bring. It's safe to say you'll be older than all the competition!

Seeking offers starting from mid $x,xxx - emails preferred as I'll be busy over the next few days but feel free to ICQ or post here. I've already been in touch with a company offering $3,000 for now so gotta be higher than that.

Whois changes != ownership changes. In fact, I believe I'm only the 3rd owner of this domain as the first owner shown in past whois's owned and operated from another ancient domain, chipcom.com. He owned it until 2008, then the previous owner got it and I just acquired it from him.

Domaintools puts in new whois records in their archives rather liberally now...I think they do it anytime ANYTHING changes on the name, including nameservers, exp dates, etc. Even on names I haven't made a change to in years, there's a ton of Whois records, all showing more or less the exact same thing. You shouldn't read too much into how many of them there are.

For instance, the name in your sig has "Whois History: 83 records have been archived since 2005-10-07."

Thanks! Always a shame when an aged name fully expires and resets creation date...almost like watching a stack of $100 bills burn.

I have someone buying another domain from me that has expressed interest at a $9,000 level...would ideally like more for such a rare domain but am considering it since money is tight. Anyone let me know if you can offer more than that.

For a limited time, I'll take $6,000 for this name. The oldest domain in existence, the 1985-registered Symbolics (.) com just recently changed hands - a dude I know well in the domain industry bought it for an undisclosed amount...an amount that I guarantee you absolutely dwarfs what I'm asking for this name.

Price reduced to only $5,000 for what is most likely one of the 500 oldest domains in existence (which makes it rarer than a LL .com ).

It doesn't get much traffic or revenue. Avgs about 60 uniques per month. Keep in mind it's been parked for at least the last couple of years.

Synnet -dot- com, registered for over 19.5 years (since Feb 1990), is now down to the meager price of $4,000!

I don't see how the age of a domain makes it more valuable except it might give it more Google love which I think is retarded

Google's love for aged domains aside, they are rare and they connote to any visitors who happen to look it up that's it's well-established, especially this domain being as old as it is. I don't know the exact figures on domains this old or older, but the first 100 domain names span 2 and a half years, from early 1985 to late 1987, and this is less than 2 and a half years after the 100th oldest domain. Oh, and the oldest domain in existence recently sold for an undisclosed sum, most likely well into 6-figures. Not everyone sees the value in these, but there are many people who do, and many people agree Google and other SEs like more age in domains too.

I'll chime in and say that although age of domain is somewhat important and does give a little Google juice.. the amount of registrars/nameservers used since the creation date also impacts.., it's like a car... you'll pay more for a one owner used car then one that's been driven by 40 previous owners...

Yay, I'm going to have to explain this again!

Whois changes != ownership changes. In fact, I believe I'm only the 3rd owner of this domain as the first owner shown in past whois's owned and operated from another ancient domain, chipcom.com. He owned it until 2008, then the previous owner got it and I just acquired it from him. In those 40 whois changes there's only 3 different owners. People assume that whois records on DomainTools always represents when ownership changes or even when whois records change, but they quite often for whatever reason have a lot of extraneous records in domains. Proof? How's this: Apple.com Whois History: 2,119 records have been archived since 2001-02-22.

Registrar changes - Domaintools only shows Network Solutions before Moniker, and Network Solutions would have had to be where this was originally registered, so that's 1 registrar change in 19+ years.

Regarding IP/NS changes, you are right about that - it is one of the things Google looks at - website age. However there is a market for extremely aged names regardless of their website age, again as I've already explained before in this thread. Thanks for the reply though I guess.

Age may be one factor but just as important are the back links and an actual site being on the domain w/ content etc.

Just because its an old domain don't mean shit if it doesn't have a history and no back links
