I'm glad someone finally pointed that out. Making an offer, even a completely ridiculous one like 5% on the points, doesn't mean anyone is forced to take it... although I suppose if you're going to be getting 0% from the board then 5% is better than nothing.
A good mod that doesn't let his ego cloud his judgement would at MOST make a post in such a thread advising people against taking the offer, and then let people do what they want with their points.
Ego-driven mods are often control freaks and are the bane of anyone who owns a board and wants to draw an income from it, yet all too often that's the very type that the boss hires to look after things. Those that consider themselves as good mods should be able to take some heat and disagreement without reaching for the ban button every time. The best mods are both fair and impartial, and themselves have a thick skin and know when it's right to ban and when it isn't.

I remember the good old days of C.O.N.D.O.M.
Seems like around 2003-2004, general board fatigue set in and I just said "screw all the boards." Netpond was a big part of that, it was like a collection of children. Honestly, this place wasn't much better, but at least there didn't seem to be so many little vendettas and fiefdoms to deal with.
I got back on here very recently after hearing from some friends that it was much better. And it is. I'm not going back to Netpond, though.Donovan TrentComment
