I deliberately avoid looking at Wikipedia because I have actual work to do (and very very important GFY posting ) and I'd never get anything done if I spent all my time correcting wikiality. Having been in this niche since 1992, first in print and then online, I find the whole notion of altmodels replacing actual cool people kind of nauseating. But I don't think GFY is really the place for a debate on what alt means as a term or whether altmodels are culturally beneficial or damaging.

I'm going to toss a couple of links up for your stuff and hopefully it will convert for me.
