In Holland they want people to wear a mask also and could be mandatory in december due to new facist laws. In Holland you can buy non-medical masks in every store. Like the name says, non-medical. Is only for false security. So people wear an non-medical piece of toilet paper as mouthmask. And they believe it really works

Masks do work but there is several culprits which make them almost useless:
1. Not wearing them during time in restaurant/caffe bar
2. Most of people wear only cotton mask which offer almost zero protection.
Just look how they are doing it in Asia - everyone wear surgical mask there, nobody have cotton mask.
3. Virus can enter over eyes as well, so if they are not protected too not much of use.Comment

You're right that an N95 surgical mask is what's needed. AND, people have to know how to use them properly and not touch their faces. Something that hospital staff are trained for.
The general public will never go for that nor should we. Sweden has no masks anywhere and their deaths have been flat since the summer.Comment

Of course NOT as good as N95 , but most cotton masks are double or tripple layered and since the virus is carried in droplets the likelihood that it penetrates the mask is not very high.

Australia has zero covid now not because they mandated masks or had a lock down - they have zero cases because it's summer. It was pretty much finished in Europe all summer too. Many places in Europe had and have mask mandates and it didn't make any fucking difference even with everyone wearing them.
We're getting fed contradicting information since the start of this shit.
First we were told masks don't do shit, now we have to wear them.
2-3 months ago aspirin and ibuprofen made covid worse, now they reduce hospitalizations by 50%
First children do not pose big risk of spread, now they are biggest spreaders.
Lockdowns are our only hope, now WHO recommends against lockdowns.
Don't use cash because it's dirty, use cards instead. But then sign the card receipt wtih the pen they give you or press your pin code into the pad that everyone who bites their nails touch.
Nothing can be done and nothing can prevent it.
As for personal freedoms, we work online so we look at shit differently. Hell, since everyone is locked inside business is fucking BOOMING. I've never made so much money as this year. But what if you run a shoe store in a mall? And they closed down malls? What if you ran a restaurant and they closed down all bars and restaurants like here? Here they closed down restaurants last week, close malls on saturday while offering next to no help to those businesses. Peoples livelihoods are getting destroyed instantly with no recourse. We can't travel, we can't do anything. They closed down fucking cemeteries before day of the dead here. Like 4 hours before. I just made a trip with KLM to Mexico and a friend with airfrance. In KLM you can use any non-medical or self fabricated mask. Airfrance only allows medical masks, at least IIR. But Airfrance didn't check if people had non-medical or IIR. Passengers didn't know what was allowed or not. But the people that had to check also didn't know what was allowed or not. They are not trained mouthmask police people.
I bought some working mouthmasks N95. If i must wear them in a plane, than better have a working one. That self made masks are mostly realy shit, hard to breath many times. Those chirurgal masks are easier to breathe. And than everyone tries to leave an opening cause it breaths heavy. Or don't cover their nose. But it make people feel safe. At the end of the 12 hour flight many people put them of. I just took 3 seats, had a blanket over my head put mouthmask off and slept 12 hours. Still no symptons. But i have a dream having a cold corona here at the beach.
Also for my father who is afraid of Corona i ordered some n95 online, cause you can not get them in the stores, only online. In the stores only fake masks are sold. So it can't be that mouthmask makes a big difference. And it are aerosols, not droplets. Most people get infected inside their house. So it would be better if we all go outside.

I'll just stick with the mask debate for now.
Not saying you said this, but just to get it out of the way I give no merit to the "after the mask mandate people still got sick" argument. The argument suggests that suddenly 100% percent of the people did what they were being told to do. Honestly, with tightening and lessening of restrictions, peoples behavior has changed very little. Mask wearing, large gatherings, etc.
Where I live, I see between 50-75% actually wearing masks out in public. Of those, between 50-75% are wearing it correctly - A LOT wear it below their nose.
So, to say that masks do nothing, when so many are not even bothering, is --disingenuous is not the right word, but it'll do.
You're right, as we enter the colder months people are going to come into closer and more frequent contact with each other and numbers are going to climb, mask or not. But if everyone acted responsibly, we can blunt those numbers. That's all I'm saying.

My family is using respirators rated 100 - (Removes 99.97% of all particles that are 0.3 microns in diameter or larger. HE or HEPA quality filter.)
We are only concerned with our safety now. These masks (along with surgical gloves) protect us. Others can do what they like. It's such a simple thing, but now it's politicized. We don't care if you catch COVID-19 and/or the flu. We no longer care if you die. We're all going to die, some sooner than others. Apparently, there is much comfort in stupidity. Yeah I see what you're saying and I'd agree that masks were not meant to stop the whole pandemic. So people who claim what you wrote above, that people still got sick don't really understand the issue.
What I'm saying is that if masks worked we should be able to see "something" that we could measure in some manner to give us an indication that they work to 'some degree.' And we're not seeing that.
Places (many of them) that had masks mandates implemented suddenly had spikes in cases. Others had no change whatsoever. Then some, like the Philippines who wore masks religiously or risked being shot in the street (slight exaggeration but you get what I mean), had few cases and then suddenly saw huge spikes for no reason.
In short there are no indicators that show that when masks are mandated that we see any meaningful difference in case numbers.

I would argue that there is no such as asymptomatic people at all. There are people with not enough virus in them to make them sick. The PCR tests amplify more and more each cycle. The CDC raised the recommended number of cycles recently.
IMHO This is a big reason why people are starting to have covid a "second time" - because they didn't have it the first time.

It's not that simple. You have a mask mandate, but even so only a certain percentage of people will follow it.
Here where I live in California we have a mask rule and you have to wear masks in public. Yet I had to visit the local auto store to get a new battery and not one person was wearing a mask, including customers and staff. There is a resturant here that refuses to wear masks, again, customers and staff.
