Who turned the sales on? Had my best day in adult yet.

I guess it's perspective some of us have done this a long time and see what piracy has done to our affiliate sales to sites that have their members areas given away for free everywhere.
Here are my July 2006 stats for money I made as an affiliate that month:

And here are my July 2009 stats so far with the far right number being the "forecasted" total for the month (since the month isn't done yet of course):

I guess it takes perspective and how much money people have made in this game to recognize what has happened to sales to paysites for affiliates. If you never made a lot before or haven't done this for a dozen years or more...then yeah, you might think this is just great.-Robbie

That's pretty much exactly where I was - about 1:1000 to 1:1600 with them over the last year on very general traffic, nothing to rave about but decent consistent numbers. Since July 1st? Nothing, nada, zip. 1:20,000+ - you'd even expect a completely random sign-up on those sorts of numbers.
My other big dating sponsor has also just blown out in the last 10 days from a steady 1:1000 to 1:4000, but they've had sucky periods before and overall the numbers usually end up coming back (I fucking hope so this time, anyway).Comment

Good point. The economy has definitely hurt badly.
But we can all agree that the shit hadn't hit the fan as of July 2008 last year right? Everybody pretty much in agreement that all hell broke loose last Sept./Oct. ? (I'm very aware of it because that was when I moved to Vegas and watched the bottom fall out the very week that I closed on my house here lol )
So I wonder how sales to all those sites dropped in HALF from 2006 to 2008?
Up until 2007, my money has always grown each and every year (I'm a revshare guy) But here is my first recorded time since I began in this business that I watched revenue start going down:

That's not the economy there...that is purely nothing converting. When I send tons of real traffic (people who actually MEAN to go somewhere) and they go to the tour and the join page and still walk away...I tend to believe that in July of 2008 it was people saying to themselves: "Why should I pay for that? It's free on a torrent"
Just saying.
Everybody is free to their own opinions. I know what I've seen with my own two eyes and felt in my bank account.

You are showing us 2 million uniques (that month) in 2006 and 400k in 2007.
I dont disagree that tubes are hurting some people.
But if I showed you my books from my construction company they would be very similar. Although this year we are doing better than last.

I'd be interested to know the difference in who / what / how you're promoting now because it looks like you're sending approx 30% of the traffic, which will make aprrox 30% of the revenue from July 06? So it seems like there's a correlation there. (It's also converting 3 x worse, but it does make double the $ value per sale).
Obivously, that's if you're willing to share :-)Comment

Of course...I had 20 X the sheer amount of traffic up until the beginning of 2007. Coincidentally the time that torrents and then tube sites started gaining all that traffic.Robbie - really interesting stats, thanks for posting.

At first I was unconcerned. I theorized that it was basically all the teenage boys leaving. Which was true. But then the adults discovered that they could get entire members areas for free and they followed suit.
Didn't take long for the big sites ratios, money, and rebills to all but disappear. For instance, Naughty America. I've promoted them since they started as SoCal Cash. I went from making sales at an average of 1:500 with them...to actually having a ratio earlier this year of 0:19,000!!! And Naughty America's websites are BETTER than they ever have been. The content is kicking, the production is awesome. Just a great program. EXCEPT you can find every scene they have ever done for free on a torrent site.
Now I'm a no traffic, no sales, broke motherfucker. And I'll get told by folks on here to "adapt or die" and that I'm "stuck in 1998" etc., etc., etc. Well, I own and run a tube site that is either at number one or in the top 5 for a HUGE keyword. Between that and my TGP's I'd like to cry. Just look at Grampland. http://grampland.com/mmpage.html It's the best it's ever been. It's a blog handwritten by me. It's a tube. It's a TGP. And I have stupid shit for the surfers to enjoy and entertain them as well. Traffic is gone. And it ain't coming back either.
And my dedicated tube site? I have some long ass clips on there. I have a few short ones too. And yeah I have dating on there. But I also make sure to link both the vid AND a big text link to the paysite that each vid is from. And it ain't no bullshit tube either. It's konrads mech bunny script on a domain that I paid a few grand for.
Sales? Maybe one a week to a paysite.
Does the economy hurt? Hell yes.
But yet at the same time I protect the content in my paysite at Claudia-Marie.Com and I made it a tube site/paysite. No problems with the economy there. Once I stopped our content from being everywhere for free...sales took off again. I only wish I could do the same things for the hundreds of programs I promote.-Robbie

I almost forgot....today HAS been a decent day (going with your original post). And this month has shown some signs of things picking up as well. Today I've made $1,077.96 Not bad for these days. But not what it should have been by this time either.Last edited by Robbie; 07-15-2009, 05:13 PM.-Robbie

Really, I wish you the best.
I am no baller, just a monkey on a keyboard wishing people did not give porn away for free.
While I was asleep the webmaster thing died. You push a button to create a site now, now that's fucking lame.
This was never my main stream of income. Even back in the days.

Well - that's something to cheer about :-) Still shitty here though.
It's interesting that your raw traffic has dropped by 20x, but revenue has only dropped by 1/3 - that's way better than it could have been :-)Comment
-
that's because a lot of that traffic were most likely freeloaders who would never ever pull out their credit card to buy anything...most if not all of them have turned to tubes.★★★

If all the freeloader / lookie-loo traffic has pissed off to tubes, then the issue comes down to conversion ratios rather than traffic levels / tubes per se. If you were still converting at 1:300 rather than 1:1000 then revenue would be about the same.
Tubes may have blown the conversion ratio out by 3x (or much more like Naughty America), but why wouldn't that surfer already have pissed off to the tubes? They're not exactly difficult to find. Maybe in this case it's the processor's ability to charge the card rather than the tubes per se?Comment

Sort of makes you wonder how much that 1/3 is from the drop in traffic and how much is from the recession and then I suppose how much is from tubes.

Yeah, I'm pretty old school. I see a lot of people on here saying that everything they do has to be super secret or somebody will steal it or whatever...I've always loved competing and me and the rest of the guys I came into this business with back in the beginning always showed what we did.
I know some guys are worried about their genius-ness in SEO and so forth...but damn, it sure does seem like every last person on GFY is now some kind of magical mystery millionaire playboy that of course can't really show anything. lol
I'm proud of the work I've done. And I'm not ashamed to show real numbers that reflect reality. I'll take the good with the bad. I mean, the "bad" is still better than any "normal" person that I know as far as income goes.
I feel like the people who are really in the porn biz and have a genuine passion for it like I do will survive this perfect storm of piracy and economy. And when the dust settles in the end... those of us who bust ass and keep on our toes creatively are going to be poised to make some crazy ass money again.
Despite all the surfers, trolls, and wannabe's that disrespect hard working webmasters on GFY every damn day...there are still a lot of guys on here who are real as real can be in this business. And there are some new guys coming up as well.
I'm constantly searching for new revenue streams and new ways to make money. What worked years ago doesn't work anymore. And the new things that DO work don't work very well. lol
But I'll just keep busting ass and pushing. I can say that my numbers did finally level off at the beginning of the year, and for the last 7 months have stayed steady. So I think I hit the bottom (even though to stay "steady" I've created a dozen new revenue streams and I'm working 12 hours a day)
Now I need to raise my revenue by 10 grand a month and I'm good again. I'm open for business...so anyone that wants to make money with me, hit me up.-Robbie

The drop in traffic correlates to the tubes...which in turn means a drop in income.
For instance, I promoted AFF and Streamray for years. BUT, the percentage you get paid out is directly tied to the amount of traffic you have. Thus I lose money on my rebills.
And of course I no longer can sell 15 grand a month worth of text links... I don't have the traffic anymore.
So yeah, the tubes and torrents bit my ass a lot harder than you might think on first glance. That's why I'm working so hard to create new revenue streams using the assets I have.-Robbie

without a doubt took some balls to do that. Shows how traffic and streams of money change.
Much like the slow death of aol to myspace to facebook and twitter. People get bored of the same shit all the time and want something different. Webmasters need to keep up or be left in the dust.
Anyone have number of how much online porn did in the US market last year? What was it 3 billion or something like that?
oh found this neat link porn buyers by state! haha
