They are supposedly "recreations". They have a disclaimer at the beginning of each episode.

I always thought it looked staged but they didn't say anything about it. So, I payed more attention to the opening credits and it says right there that they're recreations. Haven't watched an episode since.

Same here, there was some guy on gfy a few months back though that kept arguing that it was real.
