Photo pros - How to fix a models face that won't stop shining?

I don't have this problem with any other model I work with, but I have this one that has a shine to her face no matter what I try with my lights. I can't tell if she is sweating under her make-up or if it is the make-up itself that is reflecting. I will be trying different make-up next time I shoot her but figured one of you may have a simple solution.

And easy remedies to shine face?

Bigger (softer) light sources may help. Also, more powder.

if you are using hard lights, u will need to bounce them to soften the light. Ultimately you need to soften your lights.

I do know your shooting situation so i know u cant carry around bigger lights.

what lights are u using currently?

You using hot Tungsten light, DWB? Switch to some nice cool fluorescents like KinoFlos. They throw a nice soft natural light and barely throw any heat energy that makes the room insufferable, especially in a humid third world country!

if the model is doing her own makeup, then she might have a base or power that's made of minerals or have a high SPF... both are designed to reflect sunlight, and generally will reflect studio lights as well, giving off the "shiny" look.... although, if you're using a MUA then that shouldn't be the issue unless she's using airbrush makeup, because some brands of airbrush makeup base tend to melt under hot studio lights easier then others.... which would make her shiny.... or something else already suggested!! lol .... :D

I use Alien Bee lights, 2 of them and usually with black backed umbrellas, white inside. Never had this problem before though, but I have this one model that we put a lot of powder on but she still shines like the sun. I guess I will bust out the soft boxes and more powder. If it doesn't work out, I'll just sell her into slavery somewhere and move on to the next girl.

I have a set of Kinoflo Diva's over here but they are just not practical and I never use them. I don't have the luxury of staying in one location for too long or having a studio so I scaled down to some Tota lights, shoot through umbrellas and of course white balance the cam. God, I have not even watched the video of this model yet. lol Was too peeved about the pics.

My Divas sit here and collect dust. I had to pay around $350 USD to get them here once when I flew with them. Used them just 2 or 3 times and they are just too big (and these are the small ones) to carry around and be on the run.

I would KILL to be able to have a nice safe location with a set of Kinoflos. I envy all you guys shooting in safe places, not having to worry about the police knocking at your door. I can only dream of such a thing.

This model used to work at a salon and REFUSES to use our MUA. She looks STUNNING so I didn't give it a 2nd thought, but she very well may be using something reflective and not even knowing it is causing this.

I'm a quiet visitor right now, so I don't contribute to many posts.... *I bow to everyone else's power* but thanks to GFY I've learned about what having a good webmaster area really means, so now I will be posting more once I relaunch my site!

You guys rule!

.... and btw, if she's NOT using your MUA.... you've found your problem.... makeup is VERY reflective if you're not using specific brands for film.... MAC is good... but I've still had some problems with them *I do my own editing, thus I found out too late * but "Make Up Forever" is solid for photos and video.... most MUAs use it now for base and matte colors from MAC for eyes and cheeks.... hope this helps!

Point is.... tell the girl she's GOT to use the MUA! Always go professional! :D
