It's just wordplay. When mentioning Democracy they mean a representative democracy, which is basically interchangeable with the word republic.

Representative Republic.... this isnt a democracy... aka the Electoral College... our founding fathers did not believe the American people intelligent or informed enough to elect the correct the candidate.

Even though it disenfranchised a lot of people, they probably had it right

heh... it's funny how counter the current hand-wringing the U.S. has become more democratic.

Isn't there a push to form a constortium of state-govs electoral votes -- so essentially there will only be popular vote?
