crazy, at least it seems they are not making excuses for the employee as many companies would.

Paul Liversidge, director of operations at North East Ambulance Service, said: 'There was an avoidable delay. How long is irrelevant. It simply should never have happened'.

He said the ambulance service received a 999 call at 3.52pm and immediately gave it 'Category A' status because Mr Asghar's condition was life-threatening.

The driver should be charged for negligence. He's an emergency care worker who left his post in an urgent situation that quite possibly led to this guy's death.

and if he actually got fired for overtime like you said he could sue them for so much money cause he does work in a industry where he would be justified to finish the call cause he was called on to serve.. That's like saying firefighters inside a burning building where they know people are inside should clock out on time and leave the burning building to go back to the firehouse to turn the fire truck over to the next shift..

This guy atleast needs to be fired and never work in any way in this line of field!

sounds like they just swapped drivers as they drove by the depot. at first it may sound strange/evil/sick but follow this scenario.

The ambulance guy is getting off work and ready to check off for the day , on the way back to the depot he hears a call that is very close to where he is at , so to SAVE time , instead of letting another ambulance get the call he says " i'll grab the guy and swing by the depot to do a driver switch " , this may have actually SAVED time not wasted it. Mind you he could have both taken the call AND switched after but there is a procedure to follow for a very good reason. It's a very stressfull job like an airline pilot and they have set amounts of hours you can work so you are not a danger to others. The flipside might be he took the call went into overtime delivering him , got into an accident killing 4 people and we would all be asking why they let this ambulance driver work over the allottted hours set out to ensure driver safety.
