It was a totally different business then. Producers had more skill in motivating models because if the content wasn't right publishers wouldn't buy it because stores wouldn't stock it because customers wouldn't buy it. That still applies today but stupidity kicked in with the belief that if people threw enough traffic at it, they can sell shit.

Models earned more modelling than escorting or camming or having their own sites. So had to do a good job or get the boot.

Also with fresh faces coming in all the time no one needed to put up with a bad model. The word soon circulated that so and so was a difficult model to work with and produced a bad performance.
