Have you ever tried an Escape Room?

Have you ever tried an Escape Room? If not, you should check it out. They are crazy fun.

Last night my friends and I went to an Escape Room in Montreal. Essentially, you end up in room that is a puzzle, and have to discover the clues required to solve the situation within a certain time and escape from the predicament.

The one we tried yesterday was elaborate, complicated, very smart, and tons of fun.

After a brief intro we are lead into a room and explained the situation. The 4 of us are all secret agents that were supposed to meet a 5th agent, but he is not here. Instead, there is a Bomb with a timer set for 60 minutes that will destroy the city. We can't leave the area quickly enough so our only hope is to figure out how to stop the bomb, based on clues we can find in the room.

The room itself looks ordinary. There is a bed, a radio, a TV, closet, pictures on the wall, and oh yes, a BOMB.

The host leaves, the countdown timer on the bomb starts (60 minutes), and the game begins. We go through the whole room looking for clues. In the closet there are some clothing, and we find items in the pockets. Under the bed some numbers are written. One of the pictures on the wall has some weird figures. A note thanking someone for a "Great time" last night is found.

Everything in the room does something. The closet is not what it seems. The radio must be turned to a specific frequency. Why is the computer showing only a white screen? What do these codes mean? Maps! Switches! Secret doors to hidden rooms!

It was an unexpectedly great time. Each of us found different clues and had to work together to stop the bomb (we failed!).

If you're looking for something different to do one night, try one out. Completely worth it.
