There are a ton of excellent countries out there... USA, Canada, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, etc. In my opinion, the USA is the top country in the World to live if you want to get rich, but I personally think countries that better look after their poor & needy are overall "better" (the fact that people get kicked out of hospitals, etc. in the USA is just fucked). To each their own though, Americans are EXTREMELY generous and charitable people, they are true innovators and have lead the World to many cutting edge medical breakthroughs, etc. The fact that 13 million families live in gated communities there is fucked though, I'm happy here in Canada but I consider tons of countries out there to be "great".

The best ... in what?

Lets not forget that the WW2 began in 1939 and not on a D-day in 1944. lets not forget millions of other soldiers who died during cold winters of 1942, 43 and 44 waiting for alied forces to help them out in their fight with Nazis in Europe. far more died in those 3 years.

Absolutely many died for their country, but today is Memorial Day for us.

Bottom line,

there are negative aspects about every country out there.

To me, our good qualities far outweigh the bad ones.

People get lost in the hype, Americans are generally good for the most part.

Yes there is ignorance, but this is universal.

One thing I cannot stand is anyone from Europe bad mouthing the USA when they aren't even knowledgeable to have an opinion on the subject, just as I don't for their country.

It's a horse of a different color, people ARE allowed to disagree and hold firm on their own beliefs, but don't let stupid shit fly out of the side of your mouth while voicing your opinion.. and if you do, expect to get cracked

I've traveled pretty extensively.. I would say, overall, the USA is the best. However, there are other places I'd rather live if certain things were in place. Switzerland & Italy(retirement) to name a couple.

Doug E, I've walked down the street in east St. Louis hundreds of times and never gotten mugged or shot at. I spent 30 days in southern Europe and had more than a dozen attempts for my wallet and 3 knives pulled on me. Just because gang members and drug dealers kill each other.. doesn't mean they're gonna kill you or your family. And the good thing about America is.. you can have as many guns in your home as you'd like to make sure that family is protected.

I'm still waiting for someone to post the objective criteria that makes it possible to determine the "best" country in the world.

U.S. is not the best country in the world, far from that, it's just a Big country that HAD lots of money for lots of people, just that, please don't get confused, because you had money 2 years ago to buy Ferraris or Chryslers, doesn't mean you're the best country in the world. Now you don't even have Chryslers anymore.

The thing about comparing the U.S. with other countries is that, U.S. is far behind them, you can read Michael Moore if you want, and he'll let you know where you're stepping. England kicks U.S. ass in lots of things, one of them, Health System. France, Italy, Germany, and even Spain are kicking u.s.a ass, not only in Health System, Educational Systems too, they can study for free in University, and they're much better than average U.S. graduates.

Then, the worse thing about US is that, its been worried during the past 100 years to tell the world that it is in fact the best country in the world, and they forget to show the world why they are the best country.

U.S. its been paying military goverments all around Latin and South America to keep them shut and doing what Uncle Sam wants. That doesn't happened with Cuba and Fidel Castro, now, see how things are, U.S. blocked Cuba's international trades and markets by threating the world with ''if you buy or sell to Cuba, the comunists, we won't buy you, and remember, we're the best country in the world, you need us''. Now Uncle Sam is on his knees and Cuba, Fidel and the ''red comunists'' are still there, without money, but with great education and the best MD's and athlets in the world, they stood still without Dollars ;).

Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and a lot more were just revolutionaries at their time. Before they get inside Cuba, U.S. was inside paying the government to keep people controlled by the force of Soldiers. Thats a Dictated Government paid by another country, thats the main reason why U.S got mad with Cuba, that's why the commerce trade block, the illegal trade block, and main reason is: Fidel came inside Cuba, take the U.S. companies and older dictators away from the island, and U.S. didn't had power anymore with that island. Its just a tiny fucking island, nobody cares a shit about a tiny fucking island, but you just want to rule the whole world, even that tiny island. Now, while you were surprised with what Cuba was doing to your asses, Nixon and JFK were paying a lot of south american Governments to keep them in a Dictated Government.

i had to say another thing here, because i don't want to be miss-understood, usa, as a global thing, as the thing, is a bit shitty, not everything, but its always into something dirty, so its not the greatest country in the world. But, it has some places, a lot of them, that are really great, and even in the dirty places, a lot of them too, are great places, like NYC, that has shit, butter, and cream. You just need to know the place where you're stepping and you'll like to live there. the us citizens are mostly good people, like in every other country, but the important decisions that make an opinion to the rest of the world, and mostly in big countries like the U.S.A, are took by their politicians, that make the world's country image, and sometimes its said that ''every people has the government that deserves''. Might look that up, USA not at the top, but not far behind either. Iceland was the best on 07/08, USA 12th.
