Reality tells me differently. Aside from the 10 fellow officers I work with, I constantly get asked in the street where they can apply and what the qualifications are.
And the enforcement folks in Philly who appear on the TV show unanimously say they love their work.
Your opinion is simply YOUR opinion - not in touch with reality.
As Kandah says - aside from the additional income it provides, the job is ideal since it keeps me outdoors in the fresh air, exercise keeps me fit, great summer tan, bolsters the immunity to colds and flu in the winter...and I don't have a boss over my shoulder.
And I genuinely enjoy handing out $300 infractions to assholes illegally parked in reserved handicap spaces.
But **I'm** the bad guy.

Let's see - the economy is in the shitter. The big 3 automakers are nearly bankrupt. Manufacturing jobs have all gone south.
Where are these "awesome jobs" you speak of?
Hats off to anyone who holds down any sort of job these days, let alone two. And by the sound of it SilentKnight seems to be enjoying the best of both worlds.

i see some guy out talking about how he has been making bank on the internet for 10 years. then the next day you seeing him picking up trash on the side of the freeway and hes saying that hes out for the fresh air, it helps the environment, etc

if your really doing the meter maid thing not for the $, then post something nice of yours, something that will show you dont have the lifestyle of a low paid government worker

People have enough problems of their own, focusing on their own money and problems.
I highly doubt anyone is EVER going to make the sacrifice of time, money, and effort to actually take on this issue thoroughly enough to make the difference that is needed; unless they can profit from it.
Most of the big names are dealing in tubes now and are loving the traffic, so what would be their motive in fixing it? They might purchase software to secure their content, but that's about it. I doubt it will be that kind of one fix solution. It's not always about the money, sometimes it's directly for the power/control. These people can take a year or two on the chin as long as they are moving things in place to absolutely run shit after that.
