News Just dropped an extra 4GB of ram in my iMac...

    Genuinely surprised at the differece

Had I realised it would have made THIS much of a difference, I wouldn't have gone to all the trouble of looking into SSD upgrades.

haha, I remember going from 8 to 16 gig of ram and I thought I bought a new laptop.. That and a laptop cooling pad. Then I hooked up a dock so I have two 22" LCDs and life is great.

Yeah, when I bought it, it had 2 X 2GB chips in 2 of the 4 slots. I then added 2 X 4GB into the empty slots and made a total of 12 GB... So today I took the original 2 X 2GB chips out and put 2 4GB chips in their place to give me the maximum its supposed to support - 16GB

I've felt it was getting a bit slower lately (It's a late 2009 model anyway) but Im genuinely surprised how much of a boost that extra 4GB has given me - I expected a slight difference, but not what Ive got so Im in a good mood now and chuffed as fuck.

Infact, I'm so pleased I'm not even going to claim a refund from amazon like I usually do, by saying that it didn't arrive

That'll do it, especially if you are booting the OS from an SSD. I don't notice much from my SSD drives in terms of day to day use, but damn when I boot up or restart my PC it happens in a flash.

Ram drive will help speed up things as well if you have enough to ram to put your most used programs onto it.
