the irony that most of the world worships one of the most famous death penalty cases in history of man shows that death penalty does not deter crimes. Pilate vs jesus

it creates gods, crime it deters not.

        in americas news today:

Brother of spared ex-U.S. soldier tells Iraqi family: 'We're sorry'

Steven Green was found guilty earlier this month of raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and murdering her, her parents and her 6-year-old sister.

On Thursday, Green avoided the death penalty when a Kentucky jury could not reach a unanimous decision.
if we cannot send child rapists/murderers to death penalty who do we send?

stuff like this makes me believe in death penalty less and less, somehow I bet if the girl was some kid on a schoolbus stop in good ole America, he'd fry. But chances are, the SUPPORT OUR TROOPS crowd comes out to even support these pieces of shit.

        http://edition.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/05...y.iraq.murder/

""I think it is hard for any one of us to put on those shoes," he said. "Unless you have been to Iraq and fought in that war, or fought in any war, it is impossible to know what they are going through and impossible to judge them.""

in other words, you can kill children, rape little girls, and the lawyers will blame who? the lack of mental help for these killers in the first place....

They should allow the parents to mete out the justice on pieces of shit like that... Tho I wouldn't be surprised if they end up dead in jail anyways.

how is letting a severely biased, emotionally distressed person decide the punishment, justice?

death sentence does not prevent a single crime, just compare the statistics of countries where it exists and where not. crime rate in the US with death sentence is still much higher than in most other countries.

i am against death penalty cause:

                - it does not prevent crime
                - innocent people got killed
                - death penalty means that society would lower itself on the level of those that murder

I hate this argument. I'm against the death penalty, but a punishment is not the same on ANY level as that of the crime of a perpetrator. One of the "victims" is innocent and it isn't the one who is legally executed. Even if the statement is correct, which it isn't, I wouldn't give a fuck.

I do agree with everything else you say though.

Consider this. If you kill someone, you are ENDING their punishment.

i am all for harsh punishments: basic food, no tv, no comfort, no meeting other inmates, chain gangs, dirty jobs that no one else will do volounteerily.

but i dont want to put guilt on me for potentially killing someone innocent - and, even if Ron does not like my argument, i don't want to lower myself to the same level. i grew up learning that it is wrong to take somes life - by any means. and it was also put as one of the first things in the german constitution in 1949 - that death penalty is abolished. for some very good reasons cause we saw what happens when the wrong people get in power.

You can at least let innocent people out and compensate them. That's not to say they'll ever be FULLY compensated. But there's NOTHING you can do once you've executed an innocent person.

Look at the cases of the Guildford Four and the Maguire Seven in the UK. They were convicted in the 1970s for involvement in IRA bombing in London, and the trial judge expressed his indignation that they could not be sentenced to death.

As it turned out, the police fabricated evidence, and beat confessions out of them -- as they fitted the profile of what they supposed an IRA terrorist would be.

Had they been convicted about 10 years earlier, they would have gone to the gallows and swung. In 1989 the verdicts against them were quashed, and they walk free men and women.

This is the flaw in the system.

There are plenty of cases where Innocent people are convicted, But there are also plenty of cases of the guilty that gets to walk free. We can sit here all day and quote cases to each other, but I think you are misinterpreting what I say. I said that I agree the system is flawed and a lot needs to be done. It is very unfortunate for the wrongly accused and no one should have to suffer for something they did not do whist the true criminal enjoys life.

But you even stated that you would agree that LI should get the death sentence. However this is currently not possible. Again I am not saying that every single person should be sentenced to death, only in EXTREME cases such as this one. But to not have that option, and let this man serve a few years and walk free is a joke.

But executing a criminal who sodomized then murdered an innocent eight year old girl is NOT on the same level. When YOU sodomize and murder an innocent citizen, THEN you can say you're on the same level.

yeah, i know what you mean. of the "procedure" is different but the outcome is the same. i just don't believe that it's right to take anyones life under any cirumstance - unless it's in self defense.
