Where to go when winter comes?

So, last winter here in Sweden was so depressing I say never again...I need to get away at least one month..maybe two...it is fine for winter activites..if it would not be that you live in Stockholm..here you can not do shit...only cold and dark.

So if anyone has any advice or favourite destinations...please share them. I am looking at Punta Cana in Dominican Republic now. Found a flat near the beach for around 450 dollars per month. Looks great.

punta cana sucks...I love the dominican republic but puntacana is crap...if you like staying in one hotel and one beach in a hotel city then fine...

if your airline flies to punta cana then it also flies to playa dorada....from playa dorada you have better access to places on the north coast that are waaaaaay better....if you can dish out like 350$ for a taxi (and another 350 for the return trip then go to "las terrenas" you will NOT be sorry...I came back last year from the DR and did maybe 3000km on the north coast just with a motorcycle...

This is why I love where I live. Summers aren't too hot, winters aren't too cold, and it never snows here - yet snow is thirty minutes away if I really need to see it.

Penang, Malaysia. I go there every year for Christmas, wonderful people, fantastic food, great beers. Try the Rasa Sayang Hotel. Oh and the weathers great

Phuket is my go to winter escape, from there many nice place to go last few trips we've been going to Ao Nang in Krabi.. Rawai area in Phuket has many cheaper short term accommodations.

everybody is dying everywhere...more tourists die in US national parks than in the DR but nobody mentions this...the DR gets 6 million tourists/year...its a miracle if one of them does not die every day...nobody is targeting americans...

I went to Mexico, Cancun one winter and it was so hot there, I got burnt the first hours with spf50 protection. But really enjoyed this winter break!! Highly recommend this destination

Internet is fine there, but the places might only be nice if you are a Russian.

I visited Koh Samui last summer after 20 years, it was really shit.
Hot, hardly any green left, oil on the beach, was my last visit.

But there are many more places i went years ago that are ruined now.
Now in Vietnam, i know how it was and i think it is fucked also.
But there are some nice unspoiled islands near Phu Quoc that might be nice around European winter time.

If you have 2 months it is best to just book a week and be able to travel around when you don't like it. And best is to not go to a place with direct flights from Europe/China/Russia. Cause most vacationers want to leave the plane and head for the beach for 2,3 weeks. If you are further from an international airport, it will be nicer.

If you think of Thailand i would do:
- Bangkok
- Flight to Krabi and few days there (Raleigh beach is nice to smoke some..), maybe to Phi Phi for short time (ruined also)
- Minibus / Taxi to Koh Lanta
- Minibus / Taxi and ferry to Koh Phanang

I was in Koh Lanta in low season, that was too quiet and a lot of plastic on the beaches.

Been to Bali many times but its spoilt now by tourism. 35 years ago it was only visited by Australians and a few Europeans now everyone goes there and the prices have skyrocketed. Lombok the sister island could be a better choice unless you like tons of German tourists ?
