    Countries That Have Produced The Most Serial Killers


    The U.S.A. is unmatched among the world's countries with 2,743 serial killers, amounting to 67.41% of the entire world's serial killers on record.

    Serial killers are distraught people who kill others one by one for gratification or some specific motives in a pattern. An FBI agent, Robert K. Ressler coined the term ‘serial killer’. No particular factor motivates a serial killer to kill. Nearly, all killers get a sense of happiness after killings. A history of childhood abuse, cultural conditioning, and uncaring relationship with parents are some of the strong factors that play a great role in turning them into a serial killer. While some kill people who belong to a specific gender or age, some choose their victims precisely based on a particular personality trait or profession.
    Why is it that a country with so many great things going for it produces so many serial killers who are usually in a job and many from the seemingly well off?

                  I have a feeling there are countries out there with plenty of these types of people but since they don't have the law enforcement system we have, we just don't know about them.

                      US law enforcement practically invented forensic investigation and continue to lead the planet when it comes to investigation. So much so that even the term serial killer comes from it's own FBI.

                      That and the fact the sheer number of investigators the US has makes it a lot easier to catch these people, as hard as it is.

                                      I don't know if there are more or not but there are a lot of people in the world and many places in the world don't have much in the way of law enforcement to even ID these crimes much less catch the people doing them.

                                      I'm just saying there are likely tons of serial killers out there in other countries that we just don't know about.

If it's defined as any murderer who has killed more than one or two people, then with the gun crime in the USA, it's not surprising it's top. But I suspect that, at least per head of population, Russia, Ukraine and South American countries have produced more real serial killers.

                                                      Certainly countries such as Russia, Columbia, and the Ukraine, produce the worst serial killers. Look at this Wikipedia 'top list' of the worst ones by number of victims, and you'll see that Columbia has three in the top ten, and Russia/Ukraine three also. The USA only has one. It's the same further down the list.

                                                              My understanding is that if you kill a bunch of people all at once you are a spree killer or mass killer. If you killed them spread out over a period time then you are a serial killer.

                                                              That link also backs up my argument from an earlier post. Most of those with large body counts are in non-US countries where they were operated for a long time before getting caught.

                                                                                                          I know policing has improved, but I'm still curious as to why we're no longer producing people like Ian Brady and Peter Sutcliffe.

                                                                                                          I *think* (this is just a theory) that it's because people today are more focused on the now, and so are more likely to be spree killers and mass killers. They want the quick fix.

                                                                                                                      Saying we PRODUCE the most serial killers sounds like we drug newborns to alter their minds to kill en masse. Only a fool thinks we encourage people to mass murder.

                                                                                                                      People look down on areas with serial killers. Publicity keeps out tourists and new business. Big corporations want to set up in New York. Serial killer is loose so they go to Canada instead so employees will be safe. They think all of New York is affected by the killer. More foreign corporations pull their ideas of New York and go elsewhere.
