His voice has always amazed me. You think of great singers and Michael Jackson comes up or Whitney Houston. Smokey has been around for decades and still sounds great. I thought the woman in the video was Queen Latifah at first. Another of my idols, her coming out was not for attention or controversy. She was just honest and her voice is incredible, too. Great rapper and singer, especially the old songs from underrated black female singers.

And, yes, I realize that they are all black but it isn’t racism. Many black kids were forced into church and the choir and learned to sing. Many were poor and couldn’t afford skating, scouts, bikes,etc. They used their time wisely and stayed focused.

I had this discussion a few weeks ago with a bigot who said that all black people learned to sing to get out of the ghetto. I called her an asshole which didn’t go over well. I defended my statement and refused to apologize until she did for her racism. She did, I did, and race discussions aren’t going to happen again.

I rarely if ever use the C word but in her case, it’s accurate.
