> Best inventory control/management software?
Can any of you recommend me a good inventory control software for an offline retailing business? My friend is overwhelmed by the choice if someone can cut through the crap with a real life experience that would be awesome!

Hate to say this but you really need to supply more information besides offline.
For instance the inventory control / POS software we used to use for our comic/game shop would not be the best choice for a pizza place nor a candy store. Very often certain business types have more specialized software.Comment

Sorry guys. It's for a retail kiosk that sells beauty products at a mall. They don't do an POS credit card stuff at the moment and only have 1 kiosk but plan to expand so they'll need to interconnect down the road.
Basically he just wants to keep track of his inventory, sales, and see profit/loss reports etc. Pretty basic and of course as economical as possible.I fix your discharge.....Comment

If he's planning to expand, and add an online store, he might want to take a look at http://Netsuite.com
They sell per user seat and combine CRM (like salesforce.com), ERP (like quickbooks) and a commerce engine online store (that's ok). the 360 degree view is good. but it might be a bit much for him. not sure.

Have this running for a client across multiple stores on a Windows 2003 server platform and a mssql database:

For a relatively easy solution, Quickbooks Point of sale is a good deal. Set that up in my retail store:

Both are adequate for smaller enterprises and are easily setup with little maintenance.

If it's one store I'd recommend QuickBooks POS. Open more stores and boom, welcome to the world of enterprise software, I'm sure we all have different beliefs - whether it's Microsoft, online ERP/CRM systems, SAP Business One, Oracle, QAD EA...etc

I guess I should elaborate that he wants the cheapest, yet still effective and scalable solution. He's not looking to spend $799+ more like $200 or less.
