Question about the lockers in American High Schools...

OK, so the only time I ever see / have seen lockers in a high school is on TV and the occasional movie. The person walks up to the locker, turns the lock, opens the locker to retrieve books etc, then just closes the locker AND WALKS AWAY...

Is there actually no need to 'relock' the locker, or does it relock automatically on closing it?

Im aware this could just be a TV thing like the way they never show someone actually paying a taxi driver, but I've always wondered - Is it just TV or do they magically relock?

If they have a combination lock built in it will just lock its self when closed. When I was in school we had to put our own locks on the locker but I dunno if built in one's are more common now or not.

You actually had to spin the dial on the lock to ensure it locks. At least when I was in school.

We had to spin the built-in locks. I had a winter parka stolen during freshman year and a leather coat stolen during my senior year, in the winter. Walking home in twenty degrees weather wasn’t fun. I didn’t need money for school so had none. My father was working up in Boston and mom volunteer-taught Braille that day. I couldn’t call there for a ride as they met at a building with no phone.

After that I always put a $20 folded up in my bra.

The school reimbursed me for the leather coat as dad knew someone on the school board.

The auto lock thing is a great idea. I agree and have noticed that on television they never lock the locker. And we didn’t have shelves except on top. I couldn’t reach so books went on the bottom of the locker. The design flaw for short people is discriminating.

          More lower shelves for shorties!

What do they have in the UK? I don’t watch British Netflix shows as the accent interrupts the show. I concentrate on the accent and miss my shows.

That's what I would have thought. They never seem to show that part - Hence this thread

We never had lockers. You just took the stuff you needed for the day with you in a bag, and took the bag with you throughout the day from class to class... We didn't know any different.

On TV and in movies the characters always have a convenient parking spot literally right in front of the place they need to go into.

You never see them park a hundred yards away and have to walk to the door.

Okay, sometimes you see them in a parking garage - but that usually spells trouble...they get attacked or it signals a car chase scene in the garage (who knew you could do 50mph while shooting out your window on a sloped spiral ramp?!).

They have your size but the prices are crazy. I’m sure there’s a site for free bras for oversized people. Everything else is available so why not bras?!

Just take a large towel, sew elastic across it to fit you, and use it to fit under your breasts to collect sweat and avoid rashes. Not tight but comfy and it washes in the machine and dries, too.

Seriously, it works. Place a large towel under your belly for the same reason. Before I lost weight, Id get painful rashes and scabs. Sweat would collect and ruin the skin. Painful and icky but losing weight shrank my belly so now I’m able to sweat normally without skin touching skin.

You joke about bras but that area can become inflamed badly. It isn’t a subject usually discussed publicly but overweight people need to know a treatment. Other than losing weight, that is!

We had separate locks that we brought in, so those need to be turned or they'll re-open. It's not uncommon to have a self-locking option though - think of the standard safes in hotel rooms. They re-lock after you close them.
