"rejoice"? How? Why would they be happy? If we dont want meat, they wont even be born - there will be less/no cows. Would that make those cows that are still alive more happy? are you really that brainwashed?

          Tainted ground beef sickens scores
Meanwhile, an outbreak of E. coli from tainted ground beef sickened 177 people in 10 states, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.
Two companies last month recalled products amid an outbreak of E. coli . There's no definitive link between these products and the ongoing outbreak, the FSIS says, with no supplier, distributor or brand of beef identified.

The maker of the Beyond Burger, which is sold at Whole Foods and restaurant chain TGIF, among others, priced its initial public offering at $25 a share Wednesday evening, raising at least $240 million at a valuation slightly shy of $1.5 billion.

Beyond Meat BYND, +1.58% priced the IPO at the top of a range that it had already increased during the process. The company said in a regulatory filing Tuesday that it planned to offer 9.5 million shares priced at $23 to $25 each, updating the original plan to offer 8.75 million shares priced at $19 to $21 each. In the end, it sold 9.63 million shares, with underwriters holding the option to sell another 1.44 million shares in case of over-allotment. The stock began trading Thursday on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol “BYND.”

The first trade for the stock was $46 at $12:18 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, which was 84% above the IPO price. It extended gains to close its first day at $65.75, or 163% above its IPO price, making it the best performing first-day IPO in nearly two decades.

I understand that you don't like it because it is a liberal initiative but the mass production of meat is plain horrible.

I drove through miles of that stench and it was an industrial cow farm. No animal would want to be born into that. Nasty

Tyson, Cargill, And Other Meat Incumbents Invest In A Meatless Future

Since 2015, global meat giants from Tyson to Cargill have invested in high-momentum, animal-free protein startups seeking to upend the traditional meat industry.

Though not a new concept, meat substitutes have become all the rage lately with VCs pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the space.

Some newer entrants, such as Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, use ingredients like pea protein & heme and target channels like fast food to convert regular meat eaters.

Meanwhile, startups using technology to engineer meat in labs are rising in popularity and racing each other to market.

Leading meat producers are building up a portfolio of investments in insects, plants, and lab-grown meat. Cargill has backed lab-grown meat startup Memphis Meats (Aug’17), pea protein producer PURIS (Jan’18), and Calysta (Feb’16 and May’17), a company designing methane-based proteins.

Tyson has invested in Memphis Meats (Jan’18) and Beyond Meat (Oct’16 and Dec’17), and most recently announced an investment in Israel-based clean meat startup Future Meat Technologies (May’18). Additionally, poultry conglomerate PHW backed lab-grown chicken startup SuperMeat (Jan’18).

Most recently, in April 2018, leading Canadian deli meat producer Maple Leaf Foods invested in Entomo Farms, a cricket and meal worm protein producer.

Would you eat insects to save the planet from global warming?

Crickets, mealworms and grasshoppers pack a lot of protein and minerals, and take far fewer resources to produce than animal meat. Insects are popular in other parts of the world, and they are eaten by an estimated 2 billion people.

Would you eat insects to save the planet from global warming?

The thought of rising sea levels and more intense heatwaves are enough to keep you up at night. But while we all know the situation is getting more serious, most of us are preoccupied with work, doctor’s appointments and paying bills – and these immediate, visceral worries win every time.

There isn’t much time left to figure out how to bring global warming closer to the forefront of people’s minds and persuade us to reduce our carbon footprints. In fact, we have just 12 years left to keep global warming to 1.5C, according to last week’s landmark UN report. Anything beyond this will massively worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people.

Reducing our meat intake is crucial to avoiding climate breakdown, since food production accounts for about a quarter of all human-related greenhouse gas emissions, and is predicted to rise. In western countries, this means eating 90% less beef and five times as many beans and pulses.

Edible insects have been hailed as a solution to both global food shortages and reducing emissions from animal agriculture, but despite the industry’s best efforts, our response when faced with a cockroach is disgust. Even in London edible insects are seen as nothing more than a gimmick, and there are only a handful of restaurants serving them up.

But new research from Switzerland and Germany may have found out how to persuade people to eat insects – and it could have a huge impact on lowering human-led carbon emissions.

Up until now, retailers and restaurants have marketed edible insects as a more sustainable option and a healthy source of protein. But the researchers explain the problem with getting people to switch to environmentally friendly behaviour is that it often requires foregoing immediate pleasure for distant benefits, and edible insects have been wrongly framed in this way.

Before the 180 participants in the study were offered a chocolate truffle filled with mealworms, half of the group were given a flyer saying that eating insects was good for them and the environment, while the other half were told the insects were either delicious or trendy to eat.

About 62% of those given health or environmental incentives chose to eat the truffle, compared with 76% who ate the truffle after being told it would taste good or make them trendy. And the latter group rated the truffle as tastier.

The researchers concluded that we need to switch the message about saving the planet from altruism to pleasure. They back up their argument with previous studies showing that attitudes based on emotions are more malleable than those grounded in rational claims.

                                        Anyone try it?
I tried the sausage in your pic. I didn't like it. It didn't taste like real sausage to me.

                                        BUT

I also tried their morning maple syrup smoked sausage patties and LOVED them. Tasted just like sausage no difference.

My son was dating this really hot vegan girl and we had her over for Thanksgiving that's the only reason I know about any of this vegan stuff. I like my meat. But if I can get non meat that tastes exactly like meat and costs less or the same I'll take it.

Doesn't matter if it's got meat in it or not, the more processing that has to be done to a food to make it, the worse it will be for your health.

                                          - I see "canola oil". Avoid.

Exactly that reason. The idea that saturated fat is bad for us is wrong. It has led us down completely the wrong path health wise and that is why we have an epidemic of chronic diseases. Ansel Keys has a lot to answer for.

But doesn't canola oil have trans fats which are the really bad fats for you.

Saturated fats are not bad if kept in moderation. The problem arises when you mix in all the sugars with the saturated fats. And as we know our Western pattern diet usually consist of a lot of sugar.

Exactly right. Too much sugar/carbs leads to insulin resistance which is turning out to be the root cause of a lot of chronic diseases. Fat on its own isn't.

No idea. I use olive oil on everything because I know what an olive is. I don't know what a canola is

Edit: Goggled canola... "Canola" which is an acronym that stands for, "Canada oil, low acid." Oil made from the rape plant. Rape seed oil.

They let them roam around, feed them really well and when the times comes for the killing they just call a guy with a truck he comes by, kills them instantly hangs them in the truck, does all the butchering and everything, gives them the meat right there and drives off. It takes a few hours.

I asked the chick behind the counter if there was demand for it and she said that in the past month that she thinks it makes up for 25% of orders. That's a lot if she's right.
