    Gas Prices Make Record Jump

    That's rough...it's supposed to come back down soon, though..

    Supply shortages pushed average retail gasoline prices up more than 15 cents a gallon nationally during the past two weeks, the largest retail price hike on record since the Lundberg Survey began keeping records 50 years ago.

              Liars. Gas is pushing $2.60 a fucking gallon here for regular. I guess we don't count as 'part of the nation' anymore huh.

                                      1 gallon is like 4 liters right? So at 2.60/gallon thats .65/liter correct me if I'm wrong but over here we pay 1.14/liter so these prices aren't realy that high

                                          In that southern US state and in neighbouring Texas lie huge salt-lined caverns that house America's strategic petroleum reserves. After 11 September 2001, President Bush said he wanted to increase the oil in the reserve from 600 million barrels to 700 million barrels by the end of 2005.

                                          Then President Bush stopped adding to the reserve to alleviate pressure on the oil price. In May, he turned the taps back on again and the US administration has been paying top dollars - of more than $30 a barrel - for 11 million barrels of oil. Democratic senator Carl Levin accused the Bush administration of foisting high oil prices on the world.

                                          'This administration's actions to fill the [reserves] regardless of the price for oil available to the commercial sector, is a major reason for these high prices,' Levin said in a letter to the US Energy Secretary, Spencer Abraham.

                                              Give up the gas guzzler and buy a Mini cooper or one of them electric hybrids from Honda

                                                                                                              Yeah gas is cheaper in the US / Canada then in Europe by quite a bit.

                                                                                                              I guess cause we produce our own oil over here (alberta) and don't have to pay to export it all in from the middle east.

                                                                                                                                                  We also had the north south AND the east west pipelines into town go down and we've had stores without gas to sell for more than a week now.

                                                                                                                                                  Then the fix on the main line from the south didnt work so they had to put in a 4 mile bypass in order to get something moving into town.

                                                                                                                                                  Truckers were waiting 10 hours to fill their tanks in Tucson and motorists were waiting 30-45 minutes to hopefully get gas last week, not a pretty site
