I think Micro niches are the future. I think the market it filled with too much "hardcore" scenes and micro niches will start to take control.

Niche, exclusive, quality content sites still have a place.

It's still more convenient to login to a paysite than to search for various sets from a specific site on torrents that may or may not be available, and when available take long to download.

But it's true that a significant portion of surfers who used to buy memberships to adult content sites won't do so anymore.

I think that paysites really need to evaluate the quality of their members areas. Where there are a few select examples of those that do it right I am constantly amazed at the poor quality of so many members areas.

I think a lot of the problem has been on the focus on promo, tours, xsells, etc. The get rich quick mentality that has pervaded this industry for a while with the membership areas often taking second seat.

To be brutally honest when I'm looking to fap - hey we are WM's but also human I almost never go to membership sites (I have access to tons) vs solid tube sites. Honestly the UI is better, the quality just as good, the diversity greater with much more frequent updates. A great proportion of member areas are to be brutally honest total crap.

I think we as an industry have to come to terms that "information wants to be free" and watching us try to follow down the path of RIAA, MPAA is backwards looking at best, ignorant at worst. There is a fundamental shift happening and there is quite literally nothing you can do to stem this tide - and no, burying your head in the sand doesn't count.

While I don't have specific data I suspect that most people paying for porn these days are older and don't know any better. It used to be torrents, rapidshare, etc that required at least some technical knowledge - and hence younger users. But with tube sites and this new generation coming up I think we are going to go pure VOD for high quality, tube sites coming up with a viable biz model and a pay per scene scenario ala itunes.

While you can still make money selling memberships (hell I still do) I do think the landscape will be RADICALLY different 5-10 years from now. Much like looking back on CD or DVD purchases a few years ago.

The average porn surfer will have favorite niches but, on the whole, will not be fetishistic enough to actually shell out coin for a membership. He believes he can get all he needs from tubes and image sites (he's right).

This leaves the fetish surfer, for want of a better title. You'll get someone who requires high quality, unsaturated, unique and imaginative content involving hairy women, dirty feet, stained panties, crushing, peddle pushing, upskirts, etc etc. This guy WILL buy memberships and he always will while he's unable to get it for free.

So IMO porn is either 1) a numbers game or 2) a niche game. In the numbers game you're basically throwing so much shit at the wall that some sticks. Trouble is most webmasters dont have a lot of shit to throw, so the best solution is niche marketing.

So, personally, promoting niches, coupled with things that cannot be given away for free (bigger dicks, sex, etc), is the only viable business plan for an adult webmaster.

I'm tired as hell, so maybe that made no sense. If not, blah.
