"Blasting cap", "flags all over his room", "he is just a nice kid", "mom has no clue", he did something to piss off the wrong folks or at least they need to learn how to lock down their router so "someone" can't "steal their IP address" and make phone calls...yea right...

Right on 12 Clicks, I have no trouble getting any type of health care that I need, and I am not rich, I don't understand how some people feel that we should ALL have health care for free.. Just because we are Americans we do not have the RIGHT to free health care.

Even if all that is fake, lets pretend the Mom is a blast engineer and the son is a communist. You need the PATRIOT ACT to bust a punk ass kid making prank calls? The culture of fear is so prevelant that people think we need this? Welp, guess so!"Blasting cap", "flags all over his room", "he is just a nice kid", "mom has no clue", he did something to piss off the wrong folks or at least they need to learn how to lock down their router so "someone" can't "steal their IP address" and make phone calls...yea right...

Did Columbine teach you nothing?Blasting caps are in pop culture. Hell, the simpsons had a blasting cap 20 yrs ago in an episode. Everyone knows the term blasting cap. Isn't all of this arm chair judging wildly off point anyway?
I mean, lets say the kid phoned in 20 bomb threats to 20 schools or whatever they say ok? Lets say he DID make those calls ok? Now then. Don't you think Barney Fife with no bullets in his gun could have "rounded up" the stupid punk ass kid? I mean come on. You need the PATRIOT ACT to deal with a kid making prank calls now?
Ok.Comment

Stop and think about what you're asking. YOU don't know the facts of the case. So are not in a position to question any aspect of it. For all you know today, he was selling enriched uranium to Al Queda.
What does "fear" have to do with it?
Did the federal government get involved because people are afraid? Ultimately the facts will come out and everyone has to answer for the decisions that were made and the way the case is/was handled, there is legal oversight etc etc etc.
This stuff isn't happening in a vacuum where the rookie straight out of the FBI Academy is trying to earn extra credit points by striking out on his own.
Do you guys really think that the FBI doesn't understand the significance of using the Patriot Act? How many terrorist plots have been foiled and people arrested since 9/11 WITHOUT the use of it?
Funny people keep insisting that "fear" is the motivation, when those people espousing those viewpoints are actually expressing their own fear and paranoia over the US Government.Comment

Based on the content of the alleged phone calls, the kid should have an arsenal of explosives somewhere. I'm asserting that in this case, we took our sledgehammer to pound in a thumbtack.
And I think a more valid question is didnt the authorities learn anything from Columbine? Half the shit we've been told about the columbine shooters was recently shown to be just flat wrong. And I mean really folks, how many of us believed that playing Doom lead those two nuts to kill their classmates anyway?
IF this was some guy who had explosives and writings and contacts and you know.. A N Y T H I N G that linked him to being able to blow something up.. then I'd feel less inclined to post on the topic, lol. Based on the report, and nothing else, it sure seems he's been held for a couple of months like an enemy combatant for being a stupid punk..
I'm sure this wont be the last we hear of it. I mean the mother claims/asserts that someone stole her sons IP and made VOIP calls using his IP. There is bound to be experts looking into it wouldnt you think? If he said he was going to blow things up, even as a prank, he should be sent to trial for it certainly. But you know what? You can get a judge to sign search warrants pretty easy. And why can't cases like this be transfered from super secret patriot act status to local bumpkin sheriff status? Is there NO discretion left where a cool head can prevail if the circumstances warrant it?
Anywho, it's interesting and I hope national news follows it to the end.Last edited by Tom_PM; 05-07-2009, 12:20 PM.43-922-863 Shut up and play your guitar.

It's hard to say. I imagine teams of FBI just sit around throwing darts at a board to decide who they will mobilize against, arrest and prosecute. This time it was a happy, well adjusted, normal 15 year old who oddly enough, happened to have US flags plastered all over his room in an unusually impressive display of adolescent patriotism... next week it will probably be Paris Hilton. Who knows really. At the end of the day, the FBI has nothing to do but to target random people on the street for no reason at all so they can be the subject of international headlines which suggest massive abuses of power. They probably skipped every bit of judicial oversight currently in place, just so they could grab that great media attention.Comment

Thats why you should go ahead through the mental exercise and assume he made the calls, assume his mother remade his room and everything.
And then, sonofabitch, we dont find what he claimed to have.. it seems the threats were not real.. nothing seems to be what we thought it should be.. ummm hmmm.. what happens next?
Thats where I'm coming from. What next? Do you hold a kid for X number of months/years anyway? Just because the act permits it?

Do you really believe that is happening? That they will just hold some kid indefinately? Obama is moving the Gitmo detainees to the States and closing down those prisons and fighting to give them Habeas corpus rights... is it reasonable to think the FBI is doing something like this like some sort of rogue monster that can't be stopped?
Why is it that no one assumes the worst? Why is it that no one assumes automatically that he's 100% guilty of something completely unthinkable?
Why is it that no one assumes the mother is a complete lunatic????
The arrest of the teenager is real enough. FBI agents investigating a February 15 bomb hoax that evacuated the mechanical engineering building at Purdue University traced the phone call to the juvenile?s Oxford, North Carolina home, served his mother with a search warrant and arrested the teen. They issued a press release about it, omitting the suspect?s name. That was on March 5, and he?s been held without bail in Indiana ever since.
OR... how about that citing some shitty, local news station as a source of actual news is maybe a bad idea?????

Bloggers, TV, Go Nuts Over Misleading ?Patriot Act? Arrest Claim
wral1It?s the false TV news report heard ?round the world. Raleigh, North Carolina?s WRAL-5 reported last week that a 16-year-old bomb hoax suspect was hauled out of his mother?s home by federal agents, and is now being held without any legal rights on the authority of the 2001 USA PATRIOT Act, which ?supersedes the Constitution.?Comment

It should come as no surprise that someone named "gator" would be an ill informed individual when it comes to politics. I'm not sure about your anger. I'm guessing Fetal Alcohol Syndrom or mild autism and the day to day grind of having to try to deal with a world you don't understand and can't make sense of, is just wearing you down.
The Patriot Act was simply a revival of a Clinton bill that REPUBLICANS didn't pass the first time during Clinton's presidency.
The Patriot Act IS the 1996 Anti Terrorism Act from Clinton. But your too ignorant to know that or accept responsibility for it. Let me help you with some legal criticisms of the Democratic bill.... (and you tell me if anything sounds familiar)
Presumed guilty, secret evidence can be used
Permanent resident aliens arrested under this law have to prove they should not be held in jail before trial. Secret evidence can used in the detention hearings and at trial that only the judge could see, not the defendant.
First Amendment protections weakened.
The law lifts a 1994 Crime law restriction prohibiting the FBI from investigations based on speech or beliefs, when restricting humanitarian aid. Foreigners can be barred from speaking in the U.S. using McCarthy era McCarran-Walter Act provisions. An overbroad definition of terrorism virtually requires the Justice Department to select crimes to prosecute based on political beliefs and associations.
Presidential powers expanded.
The President can label organizations -- without any appeal or review -- as "terrorist", and criminalize fundraising for humanitarian aid even remotely related to such groups.
Punishment for lawful actions.
Permanent resident aliens can be deported or indefinitely jailed for their affiliations or political activity, with no judicial review.
Constitutional protections eroded.
The law further restricts the Bill of Rights' habeas corpus protections for state prisoners. Although this is a terrorism law, and death-row inmates were used to justify this provision, this affects all state prisoners, and no one convicted of federal terrorism laws. Prisoners are required to prove the state acted "unreasonably," a tough legal standard that isn't met simply by having credible evidence of innocence or wrongful imprisonment. Prisoners will be limited to one federal appeal within a short time of exhausting state appeals. Federal courts are required to render decisions within six months, and can't overrule state courts' interpretations of constitutional law.
More spending (meaning higher taxes and debt), and more police abuses.
The law authorizes $1 billion in new federal spending over five years. The amount includes an additional $100 million for one of the most terroristic organizations in the United States, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Further restrictions on financial privacy.
The law requires banks to identify any domestic "agents" (undefined) of groups labeled as terrorist, and freeze their funds with no right of appeal.
The original bill contained a provision, supported by the Clinton administration, lifting the historical "Posse Comitatus" restriction on the U.S. military working with domestic police. The provision did not make it into the final version. (That would come years later.)Last edited by Pleasurepays; 05-08-2009, 04:18 AM.Comment

Making a false bomb threat is a federal offense punishable under United States Code 18-844e, with a penalty of up to ten years in prison, $250,000 fine, or both. This penalty also applies to juvenile offenders....Comment

You can't blame Bush for how the act is used now, they could have just as easily arrested the kid under normal due process, given him a lawyer, and let the system work.
All the fears of the Evil Republican's using this peice of shit legislation are comming true, but they are being done under Democrat watch.
Obama is just as big a peice of shit as Bush the junior was."As pornographers we must act responsibly! ;))"- Nickatilynx
