Absolutely spot on. This is one of the #1 reasons to limit immigration to only those with a job that is enough to support them and their family. I commend you on your foresight.

The problem stems from the reason that 200 and even as recent as the 50s and 60s certain countries needed large numbers of worker to fill the country or replace men lost in wars. Then we had a huge number of people in manufacturing and a few other trades. Today Globalisation and Automation are reducing the need. So a lot of people are left without a decent job, no prospects, on welfare, resorting to crime, etc. Then there's the effect on wages. Constant increase of people applying for jobs means companies can lower wage bills, this lowers tax revenues. So at a time that Governments need more money to support the people revenue is falling or stagnant. Hence more borrowing.
